Hi, I'm currently 8w+2 and im craving huge amounts of milk Confused my nausea is pretty bad some days so im having glasses of whole milk in lieu of actual meals because its all i can face but im drinking about 3 pints a day in this heat on top of my huge water consumption 😂 is it ok to drink so much milk ? Worried about the fst and calories in it as its whole milk and I've read conflicting advice online ranging from its great for baby's development to it'll cause brain damage in your baby Confused

Milk is healthy. In terms of fat/calories, see it as a food rather than a drink. Full fat milk is only 4% fat. So a pint contains about 20 g of fat. So if you are having it instead of food, your fat intake will probably be lower.
The downside is that milk inhibits iron absorption so best not to drink alongside meals.

I was the same, big glasses of cold milk. After I gave birth I couldn’t drink it at all. My son loves it though! Good luck with the pregnancy!

Thanks I've given up trying to be super healthy for the time being im just having whatever i can keep down plus my vitamins each day. Sure once the sickness part is over i can go on a health kick and start eating all the good stuff

@aliensprig, can you point me to a milk alternative where the nutrition values are roughly the same, especially calcium and fat soluble vitamins? With about the same fat/carb/protein balance too?

I have looked at all the supermarket ones and can’t find anything comparable.

Does it? Sorry interested for same reason as above.

Can you provide a source? Whats the point in adding iron to formula then?

I was like this with DS. I'd drink pints of it everyday. My son is dairy intolerant so I think it could be something to do with that... might not be but it's just my take on things. He's 2 1/2 now and I noticed from 2/3 weeks he was really refluxey and unsettled, cut dairy out of my diet and he was a different baby overnight. He's diagnosed CMPA

@bluebluezoo Just to jump in, I have to take iron for pregnancy-related anemia and the leaflet states that milk should not be consumed within 2 hours of taking the pills because it reduces absorption. It is recommended to take iron with orange juice (or similar citrus drink) as, according to my obgyn and the leaflet, it helps absorption.

Excess anything is bad for anyone including pregnant women.

I did the same as I had horrific heartburn when pregnant

I had stupidly forgotten about the lactose which of course is a sugar. I developed GD and couldn't think where I had been overdoing the sugar until dr asked me what I'd been eating/drinking and said "lactose in milk!" And I was like d'oh! Idiot!

I'd advise checking with dr/midwife being honest about how much you're consuming to be on safe side.

And yes dairy inhibits iron absorption

Congratulations on the pregnancy
