Best lotion to use for stretch marks

Hi what is the best lotion to use for stretch marks in pregnancy? My partner has alerted me to the fact I have big red marks under my boobs (I can’t see them because of the position) and they look hideous. I haven’t really suffered with them looking soooo RED before it looks like a cats been scratching them.
Will this also mean my body will follow suit?? I have got an Emma’s diary pack and I have got some Shea butter and another sachet but tomorrow I’m hitting the shops to get the beer recommended. My skin is probably slightly drier all over my body as when I put fake tan on sometimes it does show some dry areas if that makes any difference to the recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

I used bio oil throughout the whole of my last pregnancy, it did get expensive so eventually I swapped to super drugs own brand. I only got one teeny tiny stretch march about a cm long.

Maybe i wouldn't have gotten any even if I had used nothing but I will be doing the same again this time just in case!

yelloweyedtiger · 28/06/2019 23:22

I used this every day and it was amazing!

Stretch marks are genetic so if you're destined to get them you will but some creams can help their visibility and colour, bio oil tends to be the go-to.
When I was pregnant with my twins I thought if I used enough every day I'd avoid stretch marks.. ha yeah right how wrong I was! Now 39+6 with a singleton and haven't bothered with any creams and I've not got any new stretch marks this time round but my old ones are back and more red than ever. It's all part of the beautiful miracle of life apparently! Good luck!

Bio oil is suppose to reduce the appearance of stretch marks but it needs to be sued daily and for quite a while. It won’t prevent new ones though and unfortunately they are genetic as pp said so no point wasting lots of money on moisturisers. I got palmers moisturiser when it was on offer and find that helps for dry skin and smells nice and I also use expert midwife which is more of an oil but is more expensive. I intend to use it during labour for dh to massage my back if needed as it smells really nice and absorbs fairly quickly leaving my skin really smooth

Waffle12 · 29/06/2019 19:15

As pp have said I dont know if u can actually prevent them as such.

However I used silderm stretch mark prevention oil in my 1st pregnancy, and am using it again this time round. I got stretch Mark's during puberty-on my boobs and hips so I think I am prone to them. But didnt get any last pregnancy, and so far at 32 weeks cant see any yet.

Have no idea if it actually helped, but i am still using it. It is not cheap, but i dont spend much money on other beauty products or toiletries so feel this is my little pregnancy treat. Smells lavendery, and although it's an oil, once dry i dont find it sticky or greasy or anything. For me it's a nice little ritual to massage bump night and morning with this.

I've tried a few and my favourite is Asda's brand nspa. It's pretty cheap and feels so nice on the skin. So much nicer than some other expensive brands. Doesn't smell too strong either. definitely worth a try x

Fae1989 · 29/06/2019 22:41

I’ve been using a body butter from Asda called NSPA. The stuff is amazing, sinks in really easily and smells lovely. No stretch marks yet but hard to say whether I will or won’t get them. The stuff is about £5 and makes your stomach feel soft and lovely :)

ChrisPrattsFace · 29/06/2019 22:49

I have just switched to the palmers shea butter specific for stretch marks, it was only £4 and goes quiet a long way with one pump!
Only use two and my belly and legs are covered! Smells nice, dries quiet quickly and not greasy!

Morticiaismystyleicon · 29/06/2019 23:08

I used Palmers c

Morticiaismystyleicon · 29/06/2019 23:13

Sorry- I used Palmers Cocoa Butter Stretch mark cream and Bio Oil as a preventative in my first pregnancy, also did baby oil baths and just used the Palmers cream during my 2nd (after both I used it religiously also as I lost a lot of weight v quickly). No marks or any left but I suppose I don't know if I would have had marks otherwise. I did feel stretchy and itchy on my belly/ boobs and it was the only thing that helped, my old creams didn't cut it!

SingingSands · 29/06/2019 23:17

You can apply the freshly shed tears of an angel, but nothing you rub onto your skin will prevent stretch marks if you are destined to get them.

RosaPaula · 30/06/2019 13:47

I use Mama Mio, it's so nice but I do think that no creams can prevent stretch marks

strawberrypenguin · 30/06/2019 14:05

Nothing can stop you getting stretch marks. Any moisturising cream will help with dry skin though

ChrisPrattsFace · 30/06/2019 16:23

Nothing will stop them if you’re going to get them but having moisturised skin will help. It can prevent them being so itchy angry and red.

fonxey · 30/06/2019 16:42

Why is it that i think of something and at the same time someone else on munset asks the same thing? Spooky!

I got myself some bio oil bit the price! I know it won't prevent, but might reduce. My mum didn't get stretch marks so maybe i won't.

I might try the palmers next time. Always liked palmers only i couldn't find it when i popped to Savers so fit the bio oil.

GiggleMcDimples · 30/06/2019 17:31

I'd buy the cheapest generic body lotion possible, smear it on a pair of glasses and pop over DPs eyes. Then he can't see them to point them out to you. Grin

MeadowHay · 30/06/2019 21:55

I never used anything other than the occasional diprobase when my bump was itchy, and I didn't get any at all. I did get a few on my boobs as I went up two cup sizes during pregnancy and then another cup size when breastfeeding! During puberty I got a few on my thighs, bum, hips, and boobs. DM didn't get any stretch marks on any of her three bumps. So I think it's just genetic and that's why I didn't. I didn't have a big bump though, everyone including the midwives would always comment on it being small. I actually lost weight initially due to HG so I didn't put on much weight and DD was average sized - 6lb 14 at birth.

Mommmytobe19 · 01/07/2019 18:46

Thanks everyone for your recommendations ! @GiggleMcDimples so funny might have to give that one a try 😂😂

I don’t think my mum had them and my sisters didn’t get many around their boob area but just gonna moisturise and hope for the best!

WeedsAndMoss · 01/07/2019 19:46

It's genetic. My mum didn't get any either- both me and my sister have them. They will fade a lot once the baby is born but you won't get rid fully.

Be proud of your body growing another life, each mark needs to remind you of that.
