Hey all
Just wondering if you have any pain or discomfort in and around your bump how would you describe it? Im strugging to articulate how im feeling and thought maybe someone else would have found a good way to explain things.

Im 28 weeks and have had some odd pains over the last few evenings - midwife says its most likely nothing to worry about so im wondering if this is a common feeling... I would say its at a minimum a pinching feeling around one area (near belly button) but at its worst more of a stabbing pain and really floors me.

Would ligament pain not be located more around the hips and pelvis?

I get a pain in my bump every now and then usually if I’ve stretched for something and the only thing i can liken it to is the kind of pain you get when somebody gives you a Chinese burn! It’s like my skin has reached its limit of stretchiness, lol.

It sounds like round ligament pain...I have it on the right hand side, but it can be left side, or centre. Its a sharp shabby pain, not nice! Usually get it from walking, but weirdly can swim, do yoga, do light step aerobics and be fine..but walking the dog kills me!

@sianyb83 I have found walking the most challenging thing to do as well. Not that im hugely active at the minute - Ive been told not to do breaststroke and im struggling to get the breathing right for front crawl and I go to pilates one day a week.

Anyone else experiencing these weird pains?

I get pains if I get up to fast, like the skin there wasn't prepared to stretch as I got up. The only other pains I tend to get is when baby is clearly shifting position and their bum/head creates solid pressure as it moves across the bump.

25 weeks here and I have had the sort of 'next to the belly button' pain a couple of times. To me it feels a bit like being pinched gently on the inside. I also get the sharp sudden pains in my round ligaments when I walk long distances. Poor you! The only thing I can suggest is to try to rest a little more and give your body a chance to recover.

Have read a bit about round ligament pain online but im not sure thats whats going on here.

Getting plenty of rest but feeling pretty tired :(

Lots of pain for me, been better last few weeks (I’m 27wks at moment). Midwife not concerned at all and said ‘pelvic floor exercises’ too me with a tinkly laugh - not my pelvic floor that hurts! I get stabbing type pain, often next to belly button- this can be uncomfortable or make me cry out in pain, a feeling like an elastic band snapping - mostly on right side, and I get general pain which is stronger than period pains, was worse in first 20 weeks and I’d be doubled over and sweating. For first 13 weeks they thought I would probably miscarry as pain was so bad (scans all fine though), now they just see it as one of those things. Unfortunately I have bad anxiety about the pregnancy because of it but every test and scan shows a healthy baby - and he packs a mighty kick to let me know he is fine.

Should add I have other children so I know these pains are unusual, so it’s not panicky first time mum - even though midwifes still often treat you as such.

I've been getting these pains and have been told it's just where the skins stretching so much. I'm quite often bent over in pain, or have to stop. I mention it every time I go to hospital (3+ times a week) just in case as it isn't always in the same spot and I'm high risk so have to look out for every little thing. The only pain I've been told to watch out for is over the top of the bump and in the ribs - anything else is normal. You could mention it to someone but they'll probably just say it's where you're being stretched and to moisturise every day

@Beldon
When I phoned the midwife last week I was asked if it was my first baby - did feel a little patronising especially when there dont seem to be many people experiencing this type of pain. Its reassuring to know im not the only one with this and you are right the baby movements are definitely reassuring.

I think they often don’t realise the anxiety people are going through. I cover it up well when I speak to people, pretend I’m all excited. In truth I have an awful feeling I’m not bringing my baby home, I don’t think that will go until he is safely here

Bernifal · 03/07/2019 12:32

I was having pain in the second trimester that didn’t fit into the description of round ligament pain online. It seems like there’s no such thing as ‘normal’ quite often. I asked about it a number of times, and in the end I asked ok, what are the kinds of pain I SHOULD be worried about. I was satisfied it wasn’t those kinds. I think all our muscles and ligaments are being put under a lot of pressure, so we’re bound to hurt all over the place. Find out from your midwife what the pains to be worried about are.

I’m 39+2 and yesterday I started getting a new, superficial muscular-feeling pain right on my belly button area whenever I stood or sat up. I was in the hospital so I asked about it and the doctor said it was probably the ligaments between the abdominal muscles being strained.
