Choosing a pram!

Hi everyone... So I'm pregnant with my first and have no idea where to start with looking for an appropriate pram, it's so overwhelming and looking online confuses me. Any recommendations would be appreciated, we are looking for -
Parent facing or at least an option to have it facing both ways
I drive so want it to fit in the boot and fold up small as space will be an issue in our house
We live in the countryside and i like walking
I want it to be able to lie flat/removable so the baby can sleep in it when we're at our parents etc
Thanks in advance

Not small but you could keep the base in car or you can stand it up when folded but what about an Uppababy vista.

ReturnofSaturn · 28/06/2019 17:52

I've got an uppababy Cruz. It has a fabulous huge shopping tray underneath too. Very sturdy too and good on different terrains, not too bulky.

LauraPalmersBodybag · 28/06/2019 18:00

Ooh, I’d disagree @ReturnofSaturn I got rid of my Cruz because the wheels clogged so easily. I lived in a city but it couldn’t deal with mud in the park or leaf mulch in the autumn so I’d give it a miss if you need it to withstand the countryside.

Op, I’d look at the babyjogger city gt - you can put a bassinet on it that’s removable and it’s got good wheels that will manage the countryside. It’s not parent facing, but does tick the rest of your boxes and the baby will have had 6 months of facing you in the bassinet/car seat. I rejected it on my basis of parent facing with #1 and regretted it as it’s a great buggy that’s not mad money

I only like bugaboo prams ,thats what im getting again this time but if i were u id go into stores & have a look & push them around to see what feels right for u x

Kel801 · 28/06/2019 18:21

I have tried a few Prams and love love love a Bugaboo absolutely great

ReturnofSaturn · 28/06/2019 18:32

Oh really Laura? I love mine, I got it off Facebook for 50 quid. Had zero issues with the wheels and I've used it everywhere.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 28/06/2019 18:36

I would get a baby jogger city mini GT and put a carry cot on it if you are going to do off road walking.

WhatALearningCurve · 28/06/2019 18:47

I've got a Mutsy I2 which I love - and my mum bought a Joie Mirus for at hers which is basically a buggy suitable for newborns.

They're both great.

However I was so overwhelmed when I was looking for prams - I went to a baby show that had tons of prams there and I found the best thing to do - rather than look for what I wanted, was to eliminate the ones I didn't like for whatever reason. That left me with a much smaller short list to work through

Gone for silver cross pioneer

RainbowMum11 · 28/06/2019 19:02

Uppababy Vista, definitely no question.

Teddybear45 · 28/06/2019 19:10

Silver cross horizon go was recommended to me as I also have a small boot. Suggest going to your nearest John Lewis and having a go; the assistants there are really knowledgeable about which carseats go with each pram too.

Dandelion1993 · 28/06/2019 19:12

Ask friends/family with a similar lifestyle to you.

I have a joie chrome as it's great in the city and plenty of room for my shopping which I like whereas my sister in law has an uppababy vista as she enjoys country walks and tales her dog on rural walks.

stucknoue · 28/06/2019 19:14

As a general rule the outdoorsy ones don't fold as small. Just make sure it fits in your boot, we didn't!

Fivebyfive2 · 28/06/2019 20:09

Glad I've found this thread! I'm about 12 weeks so a bit early but am also at a loss with all the options!! I tried the Mothercare Journey in the shop the other day, just for fun and liked the size and the way it folds etc. I'm only little so don't want anything too hefty! I like the idea of something a bit 'all in one' like a pram /carrycot that goes to a multi way buggy later. Maybe a car seat too? But I know lots of those are crazy money!! Another reason I liked the Mothercare one as it seems pretty reasonable, but not sure how it rates against others. Confused Dot Com indeed!! Xx

OxeyeDaisy · 28/06/2019 21:25

@Catarinah if your not sure and want some advice on the features and benefits etc we have found that John Lewis were really helpful (you can book a personal 2 hour shopping appointment too so you have your own member of staff) Witch is also quite useful for reviews.

We have looked at the bugaboo Fox not the smallest but should be suitable for what we want.

Weathergirl1 · 28/06/2019 21:31

Oh blimey, I can totally relate to this... We're planning a trip to Oxford St John Lewis over the summer to have a look at the options. Car seats scare me even more though as we don't own a car (hire if we need one) and I've read so many posts on here where people have said that some seats don't fit all cars... 😱 (Mothercare even explicitly say that they can advise for the model of car 😲).

Catarinah · 28/06/2019 21:40

Thanks everyone , I think you're right I'd be best going to try some out as this is all really new to me so I need to try before I buy. I'm only 10 weeks @Fivebyfive2 and not told anyone yet so stuck in our own "we don't know what we're doing" world haha

Mintypea5 · 28/06/2019 21:45

@Fivebyfive2 I have the Mothercare journey and for the price it's been amazing. I'd definitely recommend it. I found it easy to fold down and fairly light weight to get in and our the car. Very easy to walk with and control. Baby was very happy in The carry cot and now in the seat.

Fivebyfive2 · 28/06/2019 22:00

@Mintypea5, that's good to hear, thank you!! We might get the one with the carrycot and then get the seat also, I'm hoping maybe they'll do a bundle or something?!

@Catarinah, we have our scan on Monday, then we can tell people and start getting advice! Xx

Newyearnewunicorn · 28/06/2019 22:21

I’ve found one pram cannot do all things so I’ve got a silver cross pop buggy for going shopping in town as it folds really small and fits in shops easily. A silver cross linear freeway which is lovely but a bit big for small shops. Finally I’ve a second hand sleepover elegance which is fantastic off road.

lancslass17 · 28/06/2019 22:29

I have a small car (suzuki alto) my only criteria was it must fit in tiny boot (as I couldn't afford a new car).
I booked a shoppers appointment at Mothercare and we tried all the ones that might fit in the end only the oyster 2 was the one I could manage every day.
I then found a second hand one on gumtreeHmm x

TheRedSquare · 28/06/2019 22:30

@Catarinah I would look at your boot size to narrow search down..we have a corsa, so really small boot.
I went to mothercare to look at pram and they let you try it out in boot for size.

I went for silver cross wayfarer as it's quite small...has a pram bit for newborn, buggy for older an dcar seat clips on with adapters.faces both ways and easy to collapse. We go for country walks and it manages it well. Only annoyance is doesn't go up curbs well, so have to leaver it with foot, and basket awkward to use with pram base. We love it and so glad we went with it as fits our life. We ha w a tiny house, and I had the pram in living room for first 12 weeks as I put baby to sleep in it to save bringing basket up and down

angelix · 28/06/2019 22:56

My favourite was the Tutti Bambini Arlo so that's what we've ordered. Definitely best to find somewhere with plenty options for you to try, compare and have a go at getting in and out of the boot too. Good luck x
