MummaGiles · 28/06/2019 18:15

Yep. Nearly 34 weeks and so sweaty. Just got home from work and have had to put my pjs on. It’s the only pair of maternity shorts I own 😂

Purplequalitystreet · 28/06/2019 18:37

Someone offered me their cooling spray on the train. Absolute life saver. Can't recommend it enough!

Moggymorn · 28/06/2019 20:50

Just back from Argos buying a fan. Sat in front of it in big granny pants smiling for the first time todayGrin

Now on to amazon to find a paddling pool...

I was pregnant in the summer of last year and it was horrific . I was living on ice poles and had cold showers . I soaked my feet in ice cold water each night as they had swollen up like and elephant . I didn't find a fan worked so hubby bought me an air conditioner for the bedroom and I have never loved him more ! Hope you manage to cool down

SinkGirl · 28/06/2019 21:03

I was heavily pregnant with twins through heatwaves - I bought an air cooler. It’s amazing and came in very handy when the babies were small during the next years heatwaves!

Pinkfinkle · 28/06/2019 22:12

I had to deal with the non-stop heatwave last summer whilst pregnant. I had a big fan in every room and DP used to put cold flannels all over me. Sometimes he’d just rub cold water into my legs and back, it helps.

notmylittleangel · 28/06/2019 23:13

I remover that feeling ladies.
I slept in a hammock outside - it never recovered!

Cool baths and my best solution is a freezer block in a pillowcase for your feet at night - like the opposite of a hot water bottle

Beldon · 29/06/2019 05:10

Tower fans are godsend. Keep curtains in house closed all day. Ice pack put on wrist and back of neck helps loads. Basin of cold water for feet. Drink lots of water. I find the biggest problem is not being able to cool back down after I get hot so just on keep cool mission all day, not so easy when I’m at work though, miserable hot with bad headache and trying not too moan about it too much:)

Mrsmummy90 · 29/06/2019 07:20

36+1 and last night I slept naked with all the windows open and a cold flannel on me. Kept drinking ice water but I was still on fire!

Burtsbees88 · 29/06/2019 07:24

38+4 Smile i bought a snowcone machine from argos!! Best £12 ever spent!

SinkGirl · 29/06/2019 08:04

Oh and get a cooling towel (exothermic towel) which I’ve just discovered. You wet it, wring it out and then it feels extremely cold next to your skin, they are brilliant.

Hyggemama · 29/06/2019 08:09

34 weeks with my 2nd and wearing max compression tights for vein trouble Sad know your suffering. At least my car has air con (any excuse for a drive)

SinkGirl · 29/06/2019 08:26

This is one of the towels - there’s loads of brands, multipacks etc

YQXCC Cooling Towel - Ice Feeling Double Side Soft Skin Friendly 120 x 30 CM Cooling for Hours (Blue) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PV721TC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tgXfDbQ6YMVAH?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I can’t tell you how much you need one of these! I just got a pack of two when someone recommended it for my son who has chicken pox and cold flannels were staying cold about 5 seconds - this stays cooling for ages. I wish I’d had them when I was pregnant. I’d have bought one of the four packs and covered myself in them!

firstimemamma · 29/06/2019 08:45

I had an August baby op, can relate totally!

Are you able to rest with a cold, wet flannel on your forehead and / or your feet soaking in cool water? Do you have a mini fan?

I hope the weather cools down where you live soon Thanks

soundsystem · 29/06/2019 10:24

Oh I feel for you! I'm only 29 weeks but it's getting unbearable.

Considering taking the children to the cinema today to get out of the heat (32C!)

For work I've given up with any sort of business dress and have been wearing floaty skirts and vest tops. No-one has said anything yet, as they know better than to start an argument with a hot-and-bothered pregnant woman!

ememem84 · 29/06/2019 10:54

30 degrees here today. No wind.

Dh wants to go to the beach. Which would be fine except for:

  • he wants to take his paddle board out which will leave me with ds;
  • ds is like a hurricane (a lovely smiley happy hurricane);
  • I am uncomfortable sitting walking standing;
  • we stupidly threw away our beach chairs so I’ll have to sit on a towel and haul myself up
  • I’m not sure Dhs board will take his weight mine and ds’ so can’t go out with them;
  • we don’t have a life jacket for ds yet - so he can’t go with dh on his own
  • in the house is hot.
  • the garden is hot
  • I’m exhausted and just want to crawl back into bed but then that’s not fair on dh.

I’m 35+5. A month today until the due date. On Monday there’ll be a max of 6 weeks to go. I’m sitting on bed windows open trying to finish an assignment for work and do some handover emails wearing pants and a huge T-shirt.

I can’t find my maternity swimsuit. So if we do venture to the beach (where it will be infinetly cooler) I may just have to throw on bikini and chuck a cami over the top. I do not want to get my belly out. I’m also tempted to rope dparents in and see if they’re beaching. At least then there’ll be a few of us for ds wrangling.

Lexyness · 29/06/2019 11:40

33+4 and coping surprisingly fine in this heat! I was willing the sun so much after the dreadful torrential rain we’ve been having! Not sleeping very well as our room seems to be the hottest at night 🙈 but that was happening before the heat wave anyway! We have an air conditioning unit at home but it is yet to go on!
My lovely DD got an old paddling pool out and filled that up for me so when I’ve been too hot indoors I’ve gone outside and dipped my feet which has also helped - plus we’ve had the 70mph gusts of wind so there has always been a breeze!
It’s annoying me more that every last person I speak to feel the need to ask me how I’m doing in this heat - feel like I should be telling them I’m melting or something lol!

SinkGirl · 29/06/2019 11:52

Oh other things I forgot...

I got an inflatable foot bath and did Epsom salt foot soaks which helped with the swelling and cooled me down

A mesh zero gravity chair - ended up sleeping in it indoors when my SPD got too bad, they’re so good for feeling comfortable and taking stress off your back.

But really, the air cooler unit (you can stick the outlet out of the window or up chimney if you have one) is what saved me, and was worth every penny. We’ve just got them out again for this year.

Flamingolisa · 29/06/2019 22:53

36 weeks and I am also struggling. Fat hands, fat feet, pelvic pain, zero clothes suitable for this weather, only 1 pair of shoes that fit 😂. I've been taking a wet towel to bed and wrapping it around my feet as they are so dry and warm. I can't stand it

ememem84 · 29/06/2019 23:01

We went to the beach. I had a sea swim. It was glorious. So refreshing and quite literally took the weight off. Dparents were at the beach. Hooray. So they helped with Ds. Dh took him on his paddleboard (sea was flat. They went thigh deep. Ds was told to sit still and hold tight. Then ddad held the bird while dh helped ds jump off it. Again and again and again. The boy loves the water!!!

MakeAWhish · 30/06/2019 08:41

35+4 and really feeling it 🔥

thepartysover · 30/06/2019 08:49

33+2 here. It was 35 degrees where I am yesterday, during which time I was in charge of both the other kids ALL DAY. When they wouldn't sleep at gone 10pm (who could blame them really - it was still 29 degrees!) I could have cried.
Just want to lie quietly until it passes. I wasn't built for this at the best of times, let alone with an actual human attached to me at all times.

Solidarity to you all! (And please bring back the rain)

Moggymorn · 09/07/2019 14:36

38 weeks and still drowning in sweat. Who thought a summer baby was a good idea? Hmm
