Hi can anyone understand why my letter would have this on the back please? I had my 12 week scan today was told baby looks perfect and blood test results came back with no signs of anything untoward,
Then on my letter I left the hospital with it says risk of down syndrome 1:2528. Then on the back it says "The nuchal translucency measurement, combined with the first trimester biochemical markers, gives a chance of Down's syndrome of less than 1 in 150 at term. So what are they saying? I'm so confused how can my risk be 1 in 2528 but then 1 in 150 at birth Confused

I got 2 figures - one solely based on age and one based on NT/bloods.
Can you call a midwife to talk you through?

I've tried I can't get through to anyone I'm panicking as I really don't want to deal with this right now Sad

Hi
I had my front page say 1:19000 but the reverse said the same as you. I asked and she said if the reading for me was 1:150 or less then that's when they suggest further tests and it's only mentioned on the second page so I know was the level would need to be to worry? (If that makes sense - I'm trying to remember her exact words)

It means of everyone who has your test results, 1 in 2528 will have a baby who has Down’s Syndrome. It’s badly phrased but it means your risk is less than 1:150, so you are considered low risk. If your risk was more than 1:150 (it would be somewhere between 1:1 and 1:150 if that was the case) then you would be high risk.

Yep, as AllFour says it’s just bad wording. I thought the exact same when I read mine and had to re-read it several times to make sense of it.

You have a 1 in 2528 chance of having a child with Down’s syndrome, which is less than 150 (because at your risk level 2528 babies would be born and only one with Down’s syndrome, compared to 150 babies being born).

The higher the number the lower the risk.

Thank you so it's all ok then? Just spoke to a midwife now and she said also it's really bad wording if my risk is less than 1:150 that's more a less Zero. Feel relived now x

Yep, it’s fine OP. It is just bad wording, I think the midwives get asked about it quite it a lot.

Thanks everyone x
