First scan after 15 weeks?

Just wondered about others experiences - my first nhs scan has been booked for when I’m 15+3, which seems quite late.

I had an early scan (ivf) and will certainly have to get a private scan - can’t wait that long!

2 previous miscarriages + ivf making me anxious, i know the scan can’t change the outcome and that the hospital must be so stretched, but do you think the midwife could request it to be earlier? (Will otherwise also have to change next midwife appointment as 16 week appt was arranged for 15 weeks due to her hols)

You‘ll miss the window for certain tests by not having the scan at 12w, so I would definitely call and see why you have been offered this date.

If you want the nuchal testing you need to be 13+6 or under not sure if not though but seems very late! Get in touch with your midwife to check that's normal or ok...

I’m really surprised. Presumably you are IVF on the NHS, because all the IVF clients I’ve known have had extra scans, and earlier? Although it really is a sign of the stretch being placed on the NHS, so sad.

Sometimes you might be able to get on to a cancellations list, I guess. For pregnancies that don’t make it to 12-13w ☹️

As PP, if having the Combined tests and NT measurement, you need to be seen before you get to a certain measurement, when it becomes less efficient, which is usually 14w.

Due to the increase in pregnancies in my area, the earliest I could be seen was at 14w2, we were just on the cusp.

Thanks both - I wondered about the test but I’m also having a blood test which would detect so maybe that’s why?

Does seem odd, I’ll call midwife on Monday to check.

I was scanned at 16 weeks due to baby jumping around too much at 12 weeks so don't worry about missing any tests.

I had all tests done at 16 weeks too.

At the nuchal they do measurements and scan and a blood test check your letter if it says nuchal, defo get in touch with your midwife or ring scan enquiries (number should be on last page in your notes with all contacts I had to ring these and rearrange mine or I'd be too far pregnant) o think there is a separate blood test you can have around 16 weeks if your too far for the nuchal but you should be having a scan sooner than that x

Thanks @Sessy19. Yes, it was nhs ivf and we had a viability scan at 7+5 but that’s the only one.

The hospital in our area (not where ivf was) is notoriously over-stretched. My last experience there was a 8 hour wait in a and e with an ectopic. It’s very sad the pressure they are under, especially as the staff in my experience are amazing (well outside the a and e triage nurse who still makes me feel angry!)

I think I will just check about test with midwife and go for a private scan to reassure in meantime.

I’d only be ok with this if I was getting the harmony test along with the private scan. Is that what you’re getting when you mention a blood test? The testing done after 14 weeks is less accurate than the combined test so I really wouldn’t be ok with that. The harmony is even more accurate though so if I was having that then I wouldn’t be as bothered. I’d definitely check with your midwife though as it doesn’t sound right.

sandytoes84 · 21/06/2019 19:49

No, they only do harmony test of bloods from first test don’t look right.

Will definitely call midwife.
