IVF pregnancy dating

Hello. Is there anyone out there who has an IVF pregnancy and has been given conflicting information about their due date? If you know the date of embryo transfer, does your hospital use the due date from scan or the IVF dates? Thank you!

Scan because IVF embryos can apparently ‘hibernate’ before they implant. I didn’t know that until I had my viability scan before I was referred back to the NHS.

My clinic told me my date won't change. My midwife has said it won't either. It might be different for different areas though

At your 12 week scan they will date you and whatever they say is what they will go by

But in terms of dating, you are technically "2 weeks" pregnant on the day of egg collection. The day you have the transfer is irrelevant (as it could be done on a range of dates)

If it helps my dating scan matched my ivf dates exactly

Hospital when I had my 12 week scan tried to date me from scan (incorrectly using size of smaller twin rather than larger twin) however, after transferring hospital because I was unhappy with original hospital’s plan of management for IVF twins in an older mother, they have dated me from conception date which put me back where IVF clinic had calculated me from originally.

They changed my dates at the dating scan but the midwife changed them back to the clinic dates. It was only a few days (for me, anyway) and she said it would be better for giving me more time before induction at the end!!

Ours were changed at the scan - they said we were further on than we knew we were.

Our ivf clinic told us October 10th (which we worked it out as too) then our 12 week scan said 7th October and that's what we've stuck to

I know it's not a massive difference, I don't know why the date changed as he was a 5 day blastocyst.. I find it all a little bit confusing

Interesting. Did you have your IVF at the same hospital as the one where your baby will be born. As in do you think it's just different hospital policy?

Thank you for all your responses. Seems to me it's as, 'clear as mud'!

I know this is a bit of an old thread but I'm confused too! I've been told by two separate midwives and one sonographer that our due date will be decided based on measurements at the 12 week scan. We were told they have decades of data that enable them to quite accurately predict due date based on the size of the baby.

But when we had our 12 week scan yesterday, the sonographer was adamant they always stick with the IVF due date! By scan measurements we are 12+3 today, but 11+5 according to the IVF dates. Very confusing indeed!

Though I guess as someone has mentioned, going with the later due date at least buys us more time before they start pushing us to have an induction!

FlipKat - I think it is because there is no general consensus. So different hospitals do different things - that doesn't make it any less confusing for women who are pregnant though. So you have a 5 day difference based on your IVF date and scan date?
