They are sending me home tomorrow because I'm ok and well now and taking up a bed they tried to send me home the last 2 nights I only had her Friday but I got so anxious and was sobbing my heart out tue thought of leaving her but the nurse has been in and said that's she's so sorry but she's fought to keep me in the last 2 days and they won't let me stay in another day 🙈 her cord is leaking so they are trying to get a line in her veins again she's had a lumbar puncture for suspected meningitis and need getting bloods every time iv been in to see her .... she's been a pin cushion today I feel so sorry for her but I suppose it's got to be done she went from 1.6 to 1.1 and now she's 1.2 so she's gained today and she's had her first feed today so I'm just going to thank my lucky stars she's manages to fight another day and hopefully she won't have to get so many needles x

She is so precious.
I wanted to add that you will need a lot of support and fight to get it.
When you have a baby at term you have the midwifes and then health visitor.
When you have a perm you miss out
A colleague of mine did a study about how much mums and dads miss out on when they have a early baby and it’s such a shock and such a stress .
Just a heads up cause it’s very hard

I know you don't want to leave your beautiful girl is she in a local hospital to you? I feel your pain ( even though it's been 30 years since my Dd was born at 29 weeks at Hammersmith hospital there were some 24 wheelers who did really well. Congratulations she is adorable try and get some rest and time to heal while she's still in SCBU you will need all your strength for when baby comes home xx

Sending huge hugs - I remember how hard it was being in NICU and being discharged without them as if it was yesterday.

I was in shock for a long time and didn’t realise how much it was affecting me. Reach out for support - you absolutely should still see your HV and midwife, mine would come into nicu to see me.

Many NICUs don’t have anywhere to stay - I take it you’re in a level 3 NICU so may not be near home? If not, ask about accommodation (I didn’t know that there’s subsidised accommodation available near our level 2), rooming in rooms etc.

I know how hard all the needles are - my smaller twin had an umbilical line then switched to a long line after a week, then hourly heel pricks for a lot of his stay.

My twins were much later than yours (35 weeks) but both have disabilities. My friend’s twins were born in the 24th week and they are much further along developmentally than my two! One had a heart issue that is resolved now but she needed an operation - still, the outcome for them has been amazing.

I met another twin mum whose twins were born around the same gestation as yours. They had a very long stay with one of them but they are both home now.

Hang in there, you’re doing an amazing job Flowers

Saydee looks like a fighter, horrid to see all the needles being put in there but an adult friend of mine was born at a similar gestation in the 80s when the technology was no where near what it was today and after a bumpy first few months she has thrived, went to oxford now has a great job does not have any long term side effects of being born so early.
