Hey, could anyone remind me of the requirements for this test? I know I will be at the hospital for around 2 hours tomorrow but I can't seem to find my letter anywhere!

If I can remember rightly... I think I have to fast from tonight. Can anyone confirm? Am I allowed to drink water?

Thanks! X

Fast for 10 hours before and then just sips of water until test. One blood test, then sugary drink, then another blood test two hours later. I had mine a couple of weeks ago.

Basically what previous poster said! I had to fast from the night before, and only allowed small sips of water up until and during the test. Blood test, drink, blood test an hour later, then another blood test at 2 hours. Some only do the blood test at 2 hours and don't do the 1 hour.

@yellowgreenbluepurple @purplemama1990 thanks ladies!! Most hospitals are probably different but do you have to sit in the waiting area for the 2 hours or are you free to go and sit elsewhere/go for a little walk??

Not looking forward if I have to sit in the waiting area for 2 hours 😖 x

You have to be at rest for the 2 hours, so not much walking around etc. I have had it at two different hospitals, in one there wasn't a waiting room nearby so I had to go for a little walk to find somewhere to sit down. The most recent I needed to pretty much stay in the waiting room. It was really boring. I stuck my headphones in and had a little nap 😂

At my hospital, you had to stay in the waiting room. Very boring but I took a book and also did a bit of work.

I have my gtt tomorrow too. Can't eat or drink (except small sips of water) from 10pm today. That includes eating or sucking mints, chewing gum and indigestion tablets. Then it's two blood tests tomorrow 2hrs apart after having a sugary lucozade style drink. Not meant to walk around and can't eat or drink anything else in the time period.

My appt was at 8:30am so I had to fast from 8:30 the night before. Only allowed so much water and advised not to chew gum. We were allowed to drink tea with no milk/sugar. I had to wait in the waiting area for 2hrs.

HJWT · 18/06/2019 20:27

you have to stay in the waiting area, not to scare you but when I went a woman had some kind of fit not sure if it was from the GTT because they took her in another room and didn't mention it again 🤷🏻‍♀️ xx

HJWT · 18/06/2019 20:28

I had to fast from midnight and only allowed sips of water got another one in 4 weeks woohoo 🤣 xx

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 18/06/2019 20:28

I had mine last week. Appointment was at 9 and I was told to fast from 12 the night before. I was told not to even use toothpaste or mouth wash in the morning!
Take a straw because the drink was unpleasant. Like a Capri sun.

sqirrelfriends · 18/06/2019 21:16

As op have said, nothing but sips of water 10 hours beforehand.

One tip I have for you is to take something to eat as soon as you're done. The crash from the sugary drink made me feel so awful that I couldn't drive until I had something to eat.
