Gestational diabetes despite normal blood glucose levels?

I live in Scandinavia and the "normal" fasting glucose level here is anything below 6 mmol/L. My fasting sugar levels have for years been above 5,3 mmol/L but definitely below 6.0.

However, if I got pregnant, and my fasting glucose levels remained the same, above 5,0 mmol/L, I would be given a gestational diabetes diagnosis! The diagnostic criteria for gestational diabetes are met when fasting glucose is higher than 5,3 mmol/L.

Does anyone know how this can be? How is it possible that GP isn't worried about my blood sugar levels as they are now, but if I got pregnant, I would need constant monitoring?

Thanks for any thoughts in advance - quite confused atm.
