Just need some advice. I'm currently only 7 +3 and work within a hospital setting. As it's still early days I'm not wanting to let my manager know yet. So I wondered are there any women out there working as a nurse, physio, occ. therapist etc who are avoiding isolated patients or are you still going in following the infection control regulations?

Xx

I would just let your manager know. I assume you would tell them anyway if something went wrong, as you would need time off etc.

Do you have a maternity policy at work? Ours was very clear on what you should/ shouldn’t do. Most infections were fine but there were a couple to avoid as well as cytotoxic drugs/ going to mri scan etc. I would agree with telling your manager though so they can support you.

I work in a hospital and I told my manager immediately as they need to do risk assessments. I told my manager as soon as I got a positive pregnancy test. I actually ended up miscarrying that first pregnancy then needed to take 2 weeks off and everyone was so supportive. The advantages outweigh the disadvantages when it comes to telling manager

I do and told my manager from really early on - it’s completely confidential and they would definitely rather know so they can help you structure your work load discreetly and safely.

I began to tell the person In charge of each shift from about 5/6 weeks, for this very reason. I wasn’t sure what infections etc were safe.
Also worth noting, I found it better once people at work knew, even though I was initially annoyed I had to tell early, because most people tried to lighten my load a little bit and also were more understanding of when I was feeling so queasy and awful.

Agreed with all PPs. Work knew after 7/8 weeks. Mainly because I had a bad bout of morning sickness, rather than me wanting to tell them, but I'm glad I did as all my colleagues have rallied to make my job much, much easier.

I told my manager very early as I worked with cytotoxics and needed a proper risk assessment. I was maybe 5-6 weeks when I told them.

Thanks for the replies. I've told my manager this morning he was lovely so now the wheels are in motion for my risk assessment etc x

Glad he was so lovely op, definitely the right thing to let them know so they can make sure you’re safe at work.
