Visitors after the birth

Im a bit annoyed. I’d decided that I want to see how I feel after the birth before arranging to have visitors.

I was in a right state after having my daughter after a pretty rough birth. On day 4 when baby blues had kicked in loads of family members, my mums new partner who I’d never met and 2 midwives all showed up on the door step at the same time moaning at me. My mum was annoyed with me because they couldn’t find our house on sat nav and the midwife was annoyed that we had visitors even tho I had no idea if or when the midwife was coming (they’d said morning and it was 4.30pm).

Anyway so this time I decided to treasure time with the new baby before dealing with other people and then let them know when they can visit. I was planning a home birth but I’m booked in to be induced on weds at 40 + 12 so it might not be happening. I feel like the birth side of things is spiralling out of my control and I’m unlikely to get the home water birth I wanted so I should be able to choose what happens when I get home.

My mum has announced that she’s booked a hotel near us on Friday night to meet the baby who isn’t even born yet. I have no idea if I will be in labour or only just pushed a baby out then. She was also very annoying when I had my daughter and used to talk about me to the baby so I could hear eg. “What has silly mummy gone and done now”.

Does anyone have any advice on dealing with visitors, getting them to leave quickly etc. And sheltering yourself from negative comments when you are feeling vulnerable. I don’t know why people are so obsessed with seeing the baby as soon as it’s born.

Just dont let them in in the first place!

Tell your mum she isn’t welcome until you say so. Or get your partner to do it. Tell her you’ll let her know when you’re ready for visitors. She’s being extremely rude to book a hotel without consulting you first.
