Bugaboo Bee, Babyzen Yoyo, Baby Jogger, something else?

I'm due with DC3 in a couple of months.
My others are much older so no need for a double pushchair.
I didn't use a pushchair with DC2 so it's been about 7 years since I bought one and don't know what's about these days. I'll be using wraps again but my OH would like both options.

I'm after...
small, flat fold as my OH's boot is tiny,
front and rear facing,
high enough back that we won't need a stroller in future,
can take car seat adapters for besafe/cybex,
adjustable handle suitable for a 5'11" and 5'2" parent,
and nice looking would be even better!

Would a Bee, Yoyo, or Versa (does that even still exist?!) be best, or something else?
Budget is around £700 total, but clearly less would be better!
TIA!

Icandy raspberry ?

SweepTheHalls · 15/06/2019 22:04

Bee, I got one with DC 3 and wish I'd had for all of them, it's a real workhorse, bloody brilliant. Got mine 2nd hand and can't fault it.

mynameiscalypso · 15/06/2019 22:07

We are trying to decided between the Bee and the icandy raspberry at the moment; we had a look at the yoyo but didn't like it as much for a newborn. That said, I watched someone fold up one as they got on a plane the other week and it looked very easy and very light. I prefer the Bee but I think we will probably end up with the icandy as it seems more practical.

ItsMyLastOne · 15/06/2019 22:08

I'm not keen on the look of the Raspberry!

I'm thinking I'm leaning towards the Bee, but my OH is leaning towards the Yoyo. We're going to try them out in John Lewis tomorrow but I want to think about it beforehand.

I have a bee and love it. Fold small and easily. And is really easy to manoeuvre about. Wish I'd bought one for dc1 rather than getting it for dc3

YouBoggleMyMind · 15/06/2019 22:20

We've got the yoyo and we love it. Absolutely no complaints. DS is 18m and we still use it loads. Fits in my Citroen C1 boot without issue.

ItsMyLastOne · 15/06/2019 22:34

How do you find the suspension on each of them? We live in a big city but it'd be good to have a smooth ride.
Also, how do you feel about the newborn options? And is it easy to swap to a car seat on the frame?

Outnumb3red · 15/06/2019 22:40

I feel it is perfect for city living as it's so easy to manoeuvre. I do feel its a fairly smooth ride. Doesn't do well on cobbles, pothole filled pavements etc due to the small wheels.
I didn't use it for DC3 as a baby as I used my chameleon instead to can't comment on newborn/car seat use

Just spent the week pushing my nephew round Paris in his Yoyo and I hated it! I really missed the BJCM I had for years when my kids were babies. The wheels were too small for anything except perfectly smooth marble or pavement, tiny basket underneath, too flimsy to hang shopping bags off the side from a buggy hook and couldn't fold it with anything in the basket, took two hands to fold and there were three steps to fold rather than just picking it up by the handle like with the BJCM. It was particularly bad in Paris because everything seemed to be cobbles, gravel or potholes and the poor baby was bumping all over the shop. My BJCM would have handled all that with ease with the bigger wheels and sturdier frame.

That being said, it did fit in some tiny lifts which I could never have got the BJCM into so I guess that's a positive, and it was light. But it's so annoying to fold that my brother just lifted the whole thing up by the sides each time we climbed some stairs.

Bee.

Yo-yo only parent faces in the carry cot mode, is very low down seatwise and the handle doesn't extend that high, was a bit uncomfortable fir DH. Folds easily and tiny and is light though.

Baby-jogger city mini: only parent faces in bassinet mode, seat is big which is great so lasts a long time and folds small but I found the steer bad in comparison to all the bugaboos I've had.

Bee folds small and is light. Parent and world faces with both bassinet and seat, bassinet not strictly needed as the seat is lie-flat. Handle extends very easily and is comfortable for 6ft DH. Fitted our average size child until he was 3, he still just fits it now at 3.5, though we don't use it for him and we can put the hood up if he's in it!

I don't believe the yoyo allows you to use a carseat with it but I could be wrong. The bee certainly does but I can't comment on ease as I never use a carseat outside of the car.

ItsMyLastOne · 15/06/2019 23:18

It's the new model of the Yoyo that we're looking at which now has a car seat option. I thought the 6 month plus seat was rear facing so I'm put off by that not being the case.
It's looking like the Bee may well be better then.

YouBoggleMyMind · 15/06/2019 23:19

Can't say I've found any issue with folding it down, it's very easy. The car seat just clips on and off with adaptors I just kept in my boot. DS looked very cosy in the 0-6m option, it was like a sleeping bag which came off if you wanted to remove it.

2strands · 15/06/2019 23:26

Babyjogger.

Fits in any car without taking wheels off. It can be used from newborn without any extras as it fully reclines, one hand push, one hand fold, great to steer, light as a feather and easily adaptable.

strawbmilk · 15/06/2019 23:35

We bought a yo-yo when LO was 18m. Plus points are that it folds super small and is lightweight but that brings the negatives. I found it can tip quite easy on uneven pavements if pushing slowly. I hang a bag off the end but need to remember to remove it to before the LO jumps off! The basket is small with bars across which reduces again the amount the basket can hold. Also my husband is 6ft and finds the bar too low to comfortably push. It's not extendable. Probably sounds a fairly negative review but I'd still buy again as it's just a matter of getting used to. My husband can put up with as I am a SAHM & it works for me with me doing the vast majority of childcare. I have no experience of a yo-yo with a newborn but they are very popular in my area for babies x

JustTheCrowsAndTheBeef · 15/06/2019 23:35

Bee is fab for average-sized children but if your DC are tall (90th centile plus) they will have outgrown it by 18 months.

BJC Versa has been discontinued but there are plenty on the second-hand market. BJ City Tour Lux might also suit if parent-facing options are important to you.

bugeyedbarber · 15/06/2019 23:47

I have a Bee but almost switched to YoYo last year as it's so damn cute and tiny. But... the basket under Bee is deceptively roomy while with yo-yo I'd just have to carry more with me. That's literally the only reason why Bee stayed.

Otherwise YoYo all the way. It's s great buggy.

bugeyedbarber · 15/06/2019 23:49

Ps. DD is 99.6% for height for her age and Bee still works at 26 months. Also, had Bee from birth and never bothered with carrycot. Just flat seat setting and a cocoon.

ItsMyLastOne · 16/06/2019 06:39

Thanks everyone. My girls were both very average and my new partner is fairly average height for a man so I'm assuming this baby will be similar.
I might be waiting till next week to try these out as my youngest has been sick all night but I'll try to remember all these points by then as they're really helpful, thanks.

Cybex eezy twist

Settlersofcatan · 16/06/2019 07:32

We have the yoyo and it's great for short jaunts and public transport etc but it is not a great push - I do find it gets stuck on uneven paving - and the basket is tiny.

I would go for the bee as being a bit sturdier but still good for city living

SundayMorningSun · 16/06/2019 08:13

We had similar requirements to you and we've got the Maxi-Cosi Laika (currently on clearance in John Lewis).

No one ever mentions it on here, maybe because it only came out on 2018. But we needed something very lightweight (we live in a flat) and we liked the newborn option a bit better than the yo-yo (which was our other main choice).

Darkstar4855 · 16/06/2019 08:39

We have had a yoyo from six months and love it! We have the shopping bag with wheel to clip on the back which is fantastic and fits loads in but stores in the basket underneath when not needed. I can fold it one handed after a bit of practice and it steers really easily with one hand (can easily manage round supermarket with basket in one hand) and is a smooth ride on the pavement. It’s quite narrow as well which makes it easier for shopping.

I travel by public transport a lot and the yoyo is ideal as if the bus already has prams/wheelchairs in it I can scoop my son out with one arm and fold the yoyo up with the other, sling it on my shoulder and dump it in the luggage rack. It’s equally easy to unfold when we get off.

Downsides: expensive especially when you add on extra bits like footmuff, shopping bag etc. (but high resale value - they go for around £200-250 second hand). Not at all suitable for off road/rough ground. Handle not adjustable but my 6’4” partner finds it ok. Also not rear facing but my son is a nosy bugger and much prefers facing forwards anyway!

If you do get a yoyo you can buy nice leather handlebar covers on Etsy which protect the foam.

maryberryslayers · 16/06/2019 13:19

The Cybex Balios S is fab and meets all your requirements.
It's so easy to use, one handed compact fold, rear and world facing, completely lie flat, huge basket and brilliant suspension on front and back.
It's so easy to push on all terrain and has a huge sunshade that covers the whole seat.
You can fit all cybex and maxi cosi car seats to it and also a newborn pod.

Have a look at the reviews on YouTube.
