Dominant women more likely to have sons?

I once came across this article a few years ago and have thought about it ever since.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-138109/Why-bold-women-likely-sons.html

Short put, it says that women with lots of dominant traits are far more likely to have sons (because of higher testosterone levels). Women who are more easy-going and let others say the last word are more likely to have daughters. This def applies to my paternal grandma, who was very assertive (8 sons, 4 daughters), in comparison to my maternal grandma with 5 daughters.

When I think of my colleagues, the ones with sons are far more likely to tell out loud when they are unhappy with -say- circumstances or decisions at workplace. Those who have mostly daughters tend to be much more cautious and rather accept any uncomfortable situation.

What do you think, does this sound like a plausible theory?

I disagree- one of the most domineering women I have ever met has 6 daughters!

HSKNT · 14/06/2019 17:33

I'm very assertive and I have 2 DDs

RelaisBlu · 14/06/2019 17:33

I thought the sex of the baby was determined by the father?

Brokenfurnitureandroses · 14/06/2019 17:33

No. It is the male’s sperm that determinea the sex of a baby.

Millie2008 · 14/06/2019 17:35

This doesn’t make sense as the sex of the baby is determined by the sperm: all eggs are X chromosomes and sperm can be x or y, so sperm determine sex.
Plus wouldn’t trust anything written in the daily mail! Grin

I'm the most fade into the background get on with my own stuff and only my stuff kind of person. I have 6 kids, what are they? 5 boys and one girl. So I think dominant people are dominant whatever kids they have the most dominant n you face take over woman I know has 2 daughters and no sons.

codemonkey · 14/06/2019 17:58

I think anything reported in the DM is likely to be bullshit. Who decides what a dominant trait is ffs? Also how do these dominant women do this? Do their vaginas magically melt X sperm?

DeadDoorpost · 14/06/2019 18:02

Ive got one of each. I hate confrontation and rarely say when I'm upset.

Nonnymum · 14/06/2019 18:03

I've got one of each what does that make me?

TeaForTheWin · 14/06/2019 18:03

Nope, sex of the baby is determined by the sperm. Either xx or xy sperm. It suppose it is possible that higher levels of certain hormones in the womb could influence sexuality or bring about transgender(ism?) but sex can't be changed.

Pinkmouse6 · 14/06/2019 18:28

I’ve got two of each so suppose I’m a healthy combination Wink. Sperm determines the sex...

Maddis136 · 14/06/2019 21:35

All the women in my family are the most ballsy straight talking people you could ever meet and all have girls. As others have said the science doesn’t stack up either.

escapade1234 · 14/06/2019 21:36

Sex of baby is determined by the father.

ThatLady · 14/06/2019 21:37

Anyone who thinks this for more than a nanosecond needs to read up on how babies are made. Hmm

timeisnotaline · 14/06/2019 21:41

Sperm determines the sex is obvious but also a bit simplistic I think, it’s not that black and white. You can’t have a boy baby without the sperm delivering a Y chromosome but the environment of the vagina can affect which swim better / more successfully I think. Some swim faster, some live longer... obviously we don’t know enough to have any actual facts.

Marty93 · 14/06/2019 22:34

I think that article is a bit of codswallop..... it is the sperm that determines the sex at conception. Just depends whether the Y sperm or X sperm wins the race :) my mother is VERY assertive and has two daughters. My Maternal nan was also assertive and had 3 daughters and 2 sons. It's down to science, but the article is an interesting read! A bit like all of those old wives tales :) x
