I have already added cleaning stuff for the house to my online basket... anything I will need for myself physically? Have giant knickers, pads and all that do I need ice lol?-haven't a clue first baby so we have no idea!
Also I have no formula milk bought... should I? I was hoping to breastfed but im like thinking maybe I should have something in just in case? Aaaargh!
Also as this could go on for days I dont want to buy any fresh meat or veg whats yer thoughts? Thanks xx

Posh biscuits and exyra tea bags/coffee for visitors

delilahbucket · 14/06/2019 10:32

You'll need more pads than you think so have plenty of those. I wouldn't worry about formula if your other half can nip out later.

HSKNT · 14/06/2019 10:56

Sports top bottle so you can drink one handed when baby asleep or feeding.

ALL THE PADS!!!

Things you can eat one handed- see first point

MASSIVE CHEAP PANTS! See second point

HAND SOAP! I didn't foresee how much more I'd be washing my hands after changing nappies. And a hand cream! In a pump next to the soap

Something luxurious for you that isn't food.

80 razors to cut through the leg and fanny hair as I could finally reach 😂 maybe that's just me. All the love for the fanny and leg hair if that's not your thing

If BFing porridge pots. I swear this is why I had a good milk supply with both from day one. Probably crap but I felt very smug thinking I knew what I was doing and no washing up after! Hurrah! 😂

Murfs · 14/06/2019 10:57

Yes!!! Good one with the fancy biscuits I added them there perfect x
Ok ill hold fire on the formula so! Feel like there is something major im forgetting!!-

I would get lots of nice snacks handy if you are breastfeeding. Little things like cereal bars that you can have to hand where you will be feeding. Breastfeeding makes me ravenous! Also, make sure you have a water bottle to hand at all times. For some reason it made me very thirsty too!

Murfs · 14/06/2019 11:10

@HSKNT excellent suggestions!! Ok porridge oats I will add thats a good one! Ive heard oatty things are good for breastfeeding I have several packets of hobknobs in does that count lol!!
Pads... I will add extra I have 3 big packs already!
Might throw in a few face masks as a treat those garnier tissue ones

3 big packs, that’ll do you for the first day... seriously you need more pads. Good luck!
Get yourself some strepsils/lockets. Gas and air gave me the worst sore throat ever!

I got descent coffee for visitors and energy food for me (mainly crisps) 😜 fresh meat like diced beef for casserole slow cooker meals just freeze them, all I wanted was nice juice as I was super thirsty pp, so I'd get yourself a lovely posh juice
I'd order some prenatal vitamins they helped sooo much with the tiredness... as for the formula I'd maybe buy some of the pre made ones with the little screw on teats just incase baby doesn't take well to breast feeding

Ohh also dark towels for you... I ruined all my white towels after showering
And comfy clothes I lived in my baggy tracksuit type pjs
Good luck and congrats on your gorgeous little baby 😘😊

This was a game changer for the mum sweats too!

Unless you live in an isolated community 20 miles from the shops don't worry! They open 24 hours a day in many places. I nipped to asda with dd when she was only 24 hours old as I wanted to get out and she didn't fit the clothes I bought (she was surprisingly small). Do have snacking things in especially plainish biscuits as I found I wanted something whilst feeding at night.

stucknoue · 14/06/2019 11:26

For pads I just used normal ones, supermarket own brand version of always long. Every one is different though

TheDuckSaysMoo · 14/06/2019 11:28

Blue cheese, breast pads, snacks. Good luck.

redbedheadd · 14/06/2019 11:34

Everyone is different. You'll soon realise what you need and you can easily pick the items up rather than have loads of stuff you don't need. I didn't need thousands of pads or ruin any towels. I did appreciate all the huge knickers I bought.

I didn't always fancy huge meals, I sometimes just wanted a bowl of noodles and I ate lots of fruit (lots of satsumas)

Emelene · 14/06/2019 12:08

Have you got Labour snacks? :) All the treats, I loved chocolate orange and jelly beans! Sugary drink to have just in case.

Breastfeeding made me really hungry! So maybe snacky fruit too like grapes?

I wouldn't buy any formula, if you want to breastfeed the midwives will help you. If you need formula your partner could get some. Xx

LivingOnAPear · 14/06/2019 12:19

I’ve bought lots of snacks, wine and Prosecco, nipple cream, lots of pads and interesting soft drinks. Keep eating the snacks mind you. Make sure you have lots of treats for yourself.

Might be worth getting some lactulose stool softener to take after the birth. I regretted not doing this last time as constipation and an episiotomy were not a good combo.

Lavender and tea tree oil and Epsom salts are good in a bath if healing down below. I found dry shampoo helpful too. Your body loses lots of water in the early days so you can wake up soaking wet so I’ve got some bed pads and old towels to put down under the sheets.

LivingOnAPear · 14/06/2019 12:23

Decent travel mug is helpful too. I found my tea was always cold by the time I got to drink it.

Don’t worry too much just send someone to shops for you if need be or use amazon prime/ Ocado.

Florencenotflo · 14/06/2019 12:26

Some dried fruit to eat during labour, which hopefully will make the first pop a bit easier!

If you are pretty close to a 24 hour supermarket I wouldn't bother with formula. Your DH or a friend would be able to get some to you if you really need it.

Nice snacks is always a good idea and some plain biscuits or flapjacks to keep by your bed for the night breastfeeds when you are starving!

Anything you haven't eaten while pregnant that you might want? DH is already on strict instructions that my first meal post birth is a French stick with proper butter and a whole slab of pate!
