Baby monitors

Hi ladies,
First time clueless mum here due in July. Am looking at monitors and it's a minefield!
I kind of feel like one I could view on an app would be useful but also interested in the ones with the sensor mat.

However where the cot is going in the babies room
Doesn't have a plug on that wall and I don't want trailing wires across the room! I literally
Don't have a clue what to get.
Does anyone have any suggestions
Or recommendations? Thanks.

Firstly you don't need a monitor straight away, baby sleeps in the same room as you for the first 6 months.

Secondly, there is no evidence that the sensor monitors reduce SIDS risk.

I personally like Motorola camera monitors or a by one. I don't know of any where the baby end is battery powered so you may need to run an extension lead somewhere.

I didn't have one. Even if fast asleep with earplugs, in a different room, on a different floor, with the door shut, I'd wake if my baby cried. Don't assume you need one just because the baby equipment manufacturers have made you think they're essential.

The angelcare ac517 has a wireless movement pad and a camera, it's great if you're anxious being in a different room!

Watching with interest as we're looking for monitors at the moment too.

DH is keen for a super high tech one with sock or sensor pad but I've heard bad things about them - if they get the sock off or move off the sensor, it can affect the reading and I know I'd panic hugely. I think we'll just go for a bog standard one with as good a signal and battery life as possible, but interested to see what people recommend.

Baby should be in the same room for the first 6 months when sleeping, as mentioned above.

We went for the simple sound monitor, we could hear perfectly if DD stirred. We were never terribly far away, never had a huge house!

I looked into breathing monitors as DD had been in NICU when born, but couldn’t find any proof they helped stop SIDS (this was 4 years ago). DD would set off her alarms in NICU being active too, so I think I might have gone anxiously mad with that level of monitoring and false alarms.

Both sets we have had were Motorola and worked well. Only had two sets as we lost part of one in a house move.

I never used ken. Baby in with me for first 6 months and then i could always hear from anywhere else in the house if they cried.

I have the tommee tippe video monitor. I did get the one with the mat but never used it, I just changed the settings on the camera. The camera is plugged in to opposite wall from the cot.
