If you took the harmony test, did you opt out getting blood test through NHS?

I had my 12 week scan yesterday and the person doing my scan basically said if I had my harmony test done, that would override my NHS test. For example, she said if there were concerns from my NHS combines screening, harmony would be the next step and is more accurate then the NHS combined screening test. So she made it sound like if I had the harmony test, no need to do the bloods combined test through NHS. But now I am wondering if I should have? My harmony tests were low risk.

If you did the harmony test, did you also do the bloods combined screening through NHS?

I was the other way round and they couldnt get the measurement from my scan at 12 weeks so I had the NHS bloods at 15 weeks. I got the harmony done a couple of days later anyway as even after I'd had the NHS bloods taken, I knew my mind wouldnt settle knowing there was a more specific test available. My harmony and NHS results both came back low risk.

Yes, I opted out after low risk harmony results. There is absolutely no point having the combined screening if you have a low risk Harmony result (sonographer I saw on Monday confirmed this to me).

Yes I opted out too.

My midwife said the same OP. At first I was thinking that I’d like the double reassurance, but can now understand if Harmony is more reliable then it makes sense.

I half opted in. I asked them to do the bloods anyway as I wanted to know my Papp-A number as understand if it’s low you’d want to know even if you’d virtually ruled out the chance of the major trisomies.
The sonographer should also raise it if the nuchal measurement is high as it wound still be concerning if it was very high. My sonographer didn’t write down a number though because it didn’t really matter if it was 1.4 or 1.8 for instance (since the combined score would be irrelevant) but said it looked normal so they were happy.

Same here - my NIPT was low risk so the hospital said no need to do bloods as NIPT is far more accurate

Didn't bother with the Combined Screening either and Harmony is much more accurate (both in detection rate and in not giving false positives) especially for older women whose results on the Combined test will be skewed by their age.

On a slightly related note, it really annoys me that the information given isn't clear about all this stuff resulting in so many people getting confused about it all rant over.

I opted in as I had low PAPP-A in my last pregnancy so wanted that monitored in the NHS system if it was the same this time round

I had the harmony test at 10 weeks and had the results before my 12 week scan. Since the scan was fine and the test results were fine, I agreed with the midwife to not do the NHS tests as there wasn't a need.

Mamabear12 · 13/06/2019 16:54

Okay good, I’m feeling better about not doing it. But still wondering if I should have found about my pap a results? Could someone explain about the papp a?

I did the same...They still scanned & dated me but said the harmony over rides the NHS screening. So no point doing it as mine was all clear & low risk Smile

Absolutely. I had the Harmony at 10+5 weeks and then declined the NHS blood test as I didn't want it to cast a cloud over my results from Harmony. I still had the scan etc., so could get the nuchal measurement which was fine. Glad your Harmony result was good. :)
