How can I get rid of this vile taste in my mouth?

When I don’t feel queasy, it makes me feel queasy! It’s a bit metallic but generally just gross and nothing seems to get rid of it!!

I found brushing teeth and gum or mints helped...but maybe mine was not as strong, as I assume you tried those first steps already!

Aberforthsgoat · 13/06/2019 15:29

I seem to spend most of my time brushing my teeth at the moment Grin it does help briefly but then comes back.
Mints sometimes help but sometimes make me feel queasy. I was hoping there would be some miracle trick that someone had stumbled across!

How are your iron levels? One of my key anaemia symptoms is a metallic taste.

Aberforthsgoat · 13/06/2019 15:50

I have no idea @walnutwhipster but I am really tired. I thought it was just pregnancy... I’m seeing the midwife tomorrow so can ask her... I’ve been getting headaches a lot as well
I thought my pregnancy vitamin would cover iron again but I will check

Hi, I found tangfastics helped, or having a fizzy drink. It really is horrible though, I had this with all 3 of my (Newest one is 13 Days old) and I had it throughout all of preg with her!! My sympathies, I hope it passes soon

LHMB · 13/06/2019 16:15

Me too, I am always brushing my teeth, constantly got an awful taste in my mouth, horrendous headaches too, I've had a headache for 4 days

Aberforthsgoat · 13/06/2019 16:31

Thank you. I’m really struggling with it. I’ve found a fruit yogurt which helps a bit but just discovered it’s really high in sugar so am thinking I shouldn’t really eat too much of that

@MarkingMyPlace9 OMG thank you. Tangfastics really work! Probably not great for my sugar intake but THANK YOU for the first time in about three weeks I don’t have that vile taste!

Yay! I'm glad it helps. Anything fizzy/tangy really did help. Wasn't good for my waistline, but I didn't really care Grin hope it stops soon!

Cyw2018 · 13/06/2019 19:16

The only thing that I found that cut through the metallic taste was apples, although the relief was only brief. I was eating 5 apples.

sacrecoeur0712 · 13/06/2019 19:27

I had this during the first and early part of the second trimester. Mine did pass eventually so hopefully yours will too!

sl07 · 13/06/2019 20:40

Nothing helps me to get rid of it apart from sucking sweets. X

Rubberyduck · 13/06/2019 20:45

Yeah another here for sucking sweets especially lollies as they last forever. However I am sick to death of eating as its all I seem to do to keep the nausea down. I am going to be huge Sad

Aberforthsgoat · 13/06/2019 20:58

Same @rubberyduck I’m so worried about stacking on the weight!

If fruit yoghurts help try natural Greek yoghurt with added berries as Greek yoghurt contains a lot less sugar.

codemonkey · 13/06/2019 21:42

I just put up with it. That and the constant revolting smell of rubber. Both went away some time in the second trimester.

tumtitum · 13/06/2019 21:44

I ate these lemon mint sweets, think they were riccola or something?? Sugar free. It was horrid, had it my whole pregnant!! Sorry!

Cuddlysnowleopard · 13/06/2019 21:46

Frozen grapes.

Aberforthsgoat · 13/06/2019 22:04

Ooh frozen grapes would be a bit healthier will try that thanks!
I’ve tried to ignore it but it makes the gagging start again

I found chewing gum helped.

MeredithGrey1 · 13/06/2019 22:26

The only thing that I found that cut through the metallic taste was apples

I was going to suggest this too, for me the sour juicy Granny Smith apples definitely helped.

BlueBrushing · 13/06/2019 22:34

Green apples

AWaspOnAWindowReturns · 13/06/2019 23:06

I second Tangfastics or sherbet lemons (I think it's ALDI or Lidl who do sugar-free sherbet lemons?) I also used to carry a little bottle of lemon essential oil to sniff which seemed to help a lot.

granadagirl · 13/06/2019 23:19

It’s your hormones changing

I’ve got this now post menopause
And sympathy to you, it’s horrible
My tongue all so feels like it’s been scalded
