Bra size at term Vs milk coming in

Save me a search, and I know everyone is different, but if I'm looking at buying a couple of nursing bras for when breastfeeding is established what would be sensible band/cup increase to estimate at from what I'm wearing now at full term pregnancy? I'm not going to want to go out and get measured, and I'm happy with the maternity bra size I've got now, it's just a question of what to add onto it, ish.

I'm assuming band size won't change much now my ribs have done all that during pregnancy so it'll be mostly trying to get the cup size right? I've a couple of crop-top type bras too ready to go but would like a couple of the clip-up maternity bras with a little more support, too.

Just get really soft, unstructured bras (M&S are ugly but the best bras I bought).

I cannot begin to tell you how frigging massive and hard my boobs were when my milk came in! But they settle down reasonably quickly, and empty/refill multiple times a day if you’re BF so you’re not really one size for any period of time.

Buy a couple of soft nursing bras in different sizes (normal size and 1/2 up) and then see how you get on. You can alway do next day delivery if needs be.

I always go up a size when my milk comes in never needed to go up a size when pregnant but everyone is different.x

Amazon sells a pack of 3 soft high stretch bras for £18 with extenders. They will stretch to accomodate up to 2-3 cup sizes

It's the clippy up/down bit of a nursing bra I'm keen for really as I can't see crop top style being as easy to feed with when out and about...but that's me trying to work out the logistics without an actual baby to try it on yet 😂
I also hadn't factored in the size fluctuations during the day...maybe I'd be better waiting and doing a bit of online shopping after baby arrives and stick with my crop tops while I'm not really leaving the house

Yes amazon’s has that clippy bit

alfie22 · 13/06/2019 12:18

I got m&s nursing bras which have the clipping bit and are S/M/L.

I'm a 40B and got a large, they fit perfectly and are so comfy. I got 2 for £30

Heyha · 13/06/2019 12:26

Oh @teddybear45 they are perfect, thank you 😘 I misunderstood what you meant, sorry. M&S also sounds promising, had a few people ask 'but what can I get as a gift for you' so that could be a good solution. My poor pre-pregnancy bras must be crying at the back of the drawer now 😂

I'm not even breastfeeding but still wear my m&s ones 😂 they are so comfortable!

Capybaras · 13/06/2019 12:34

I was measured for nursing bras this week and have gone up 2 back sizes and 2 cup sizes (currently 36+2). Was advised to buy a larger size again to account for boobs growing when milk comes in. Ended up buying the biggest possible size in M&S but my god they're comfy. Been wearing them already!

anitagreen · 13/06/2019 12:50

I started a 34D when milk came in went to a 34E stayed that way through now I'm pregnant again and I'm expecting to go to an F this time Shock

PetraRabbit · 13/06/2019 12:56

I made a big mistake buying before the baby came. I'm usually a 32 band and my ribs expanded a huge amount in pregnancy with the baby sitting up high. I bought 34s and by the time I delivered the baby I was back to a 32. I wore the bras anyway but they were annoying. Next time I'm going to size down on the band or wait until the baby's born. My cup changed a bit but only when full of milk- I had a lot of daily fluctuation. With soft cup bras the cup size I bought was ok. My cup size is on the large size. I think smaller breasted women tend to see more drastic changes.

physicskate · 13/06/2019 14:20

I was a 34 d/dd before pregnancy. Went up to a 38e during pregnancy. I'm now 13 weeks pp and according to my boob or bust (website) measurements, I should be a 32hh ShockConfused. Im ebf and they've got a mind of their own!!! I'm just wearing the crop top types that are rated up to 34f.

Basically, it's a minefield. Prepare for them to change daily.

Heyha · 13/06/2019 14:57

I like the Amazon and m&s ones for having vague sizes rather than bra sizes- I'm not really that big now (about a 36C) so looks like medium might be a good place to start. They'll fit at some point by the sounds of it even if it's just from 11am til 2pm every other day 😂.
It's a novelty having a cleavage and having to think about accomodating it! Thanks for all the advice, ladies.

I bought some from ASOS - they came in small/med/large and easy returns if not quite right.
I found my band size went down slightly in the last few weeks before delivery as baby dropped down. My modest boobs were porn star huge, round and solid when my milk first came in (wish I'd taken a photo for posterity!) but quickly settled down to a slightly larger version of my normal.

Triskaidekaphilia · 13/06/2019 23:51

I'm going for some of the amazon ones as well, then will get fitted at bravissimo again when they've settled down a bit. At the moment I'm 36HH, no idea what I'll be when my milk comes in Confused

Hmmmbop · 14/06/2019 12:28

I went up a back size and up a cup in pregnancy then down a back size and up 2 cups when feeding.

Wait until baby is here then go to the boob or bust website and measure yourself.

firstimemamma · 14/06/2019 12:35

Mothercare sell nursing bras for night time that come in a simple small, medium or large (no cup sizes). You could just buy a couple of them and then you can buy cup bras once your milk has come in and you're a bit more sure if what size you'll be? Smile

Heyha · 14/06/2019 15:27

Been having a casual Google for breastfeeding clothes as well as bras (conscious I won't have time to think, soon!). Spotted these www.boohoo.com/maternity--2-pack-nursing-bra/BZZ48840.html they look a bit different!
