This may seem really silly, but as a first time mum I’m naturally worrying about giving birth!
However, I have gestational diabetes and am being told my baby is measuring atleast 3 weeks a head of what she should be!
I meet with specialists again on the 17th to see if I have to be induced or not.
Just wondering if anyone else is feeling really nervous or not? Thank you!

How controlled is your GD?

I had GD in both my pregnancies (diet controlled). Induced with first baby, spontaneous labour with second. DD was 7lb 10oz and DS was 7lb 14oz. DD was predicted to be around 9lb at birth from growth scans (which in late pregnancy are notoriously inaccurate).

I’m telling you that to show that not all GD pregnancies lead to massive babies or difficult labours!

Both my children had low blood sugar at birth due to the GD. Has anyone talked to you about harvesting colostrum to give to the baby by syringe after birth? I did this with my son and his blood sugars improved in an hour or so (much quicker than my daughter who was force fed formula, but that’s another story!)

I’m 37 weeks with gestational
Diabetes. Apparently baby is 9lb5 already.
I’m being induced tomorrow and needless to say I’m shifting myself.
I’ve already had 2 labours so I know what to expect, but they are concerned enough to induce me 3 weeks early, so they obviously are worried too

I had GD with my last baby who is now 3 wks old - he was estimated 9lb. Born at home accidentally after a 1.5 hour from first contraction to him being here labour before the ambulance could make it. He was 8lb 1oz. I was all for getting an epidural as soon as I could in my "birth plan" Grin

@Clettercletterthatsbetter I have to take metformin twice daily but I was already at risk of up and down sugar due to PCOS. They mentioned harvesting when I was first diagnosed but I have midwife tomorrow so am going to bring it up then. Thank you!!

@NeitherNowtNorSummat01
I have another scan on the 17th, a few days before 37 weeks so worried they’ll say the same to me if she’s too big! Good luck and hope you are both well!

@Thenameisweasley oh no haha that sounds very eventful! I don’t want an epidural but keeping an open mind as much as I can! Glad you are both okay!
