I'm getting an emergency cevical stitch tomorrow morning. Can anyone share their experiences please? I'm quite nervous.

I hope it went well. My friend had to have this in both her pregnancies. In her first, she had to be on bed rest for weeks and weeks, but both pregnancies were successful.

Hi OP

I hope it all went well and the stitch is now in. How many weeks along are you? I had stitches in both of my pregnancies and am happy to share if you'd like to hear....but before I do, please bear in mind that I didn't get the 40 week fairytale ending I'd hoped for. Best of luck with everything x

Thanks for replying... the procedure went well and was no where near as scary as I was expecting.
I'm 23+4, i've already had two prem babies so I'm never getting a 40 weeker, just would love to get a few more weeks in.

Wishing you the very best of luck. To have a stitch put in at 23+4 - which as far as I am aware is pretty late for this to happen - hopefully means that you still had enough cervical length for the procedure to work and to hold strong. Mine in my first pregnancy was put in at 22 weeks and DS decided to arrive bright and early at 24 weeks, but I do believe that the stitch gave him extra days that he wouldn’t have had otherwise. In my second pregnancy I had two stitches - top and bottom of cervix - put in at 12 weeks and DS2 hung on until 38 weeks, so it can happen.

Have you been offered progesterone in addition to the stitch? The two together have been proven to be pretty successful in prolonging pregnancies, my second pregnancy being one example.

I wish you the best of luck for many more uneventful weeks. How early were your other two, if you don’t mind me asking?

Thankyou.

They did say they don't normally do it after 23 weeks but my scan yesterday showed it was 14mm so they booked me in for the stitch today. I'm so close to viability now that I just need atleast a few days but hopefully as long as possible. I was already on the progesterone so need to continue with that.

My DS was born at 24+6 after spontaneous labour and my DD was 31+5 c section due to IUGR and oligohydramnios. They're both well now but I was always expecting some drama with the third.
