Sorry if this post has already been done, but I wondered if anyone can recommend a good cream/oil for stretchmarks?
I dont have any marks yet, but I am putting on weight quite rapidly, actually starting to wonder if im having twins???

I used love boo miracle oil first time round, only got a few stretch marks at the end when my bump dropped, using same again with second pregnancy, I'm nearly 20 weeks and nothing yet fingers crossed! It feels lovely. Tried palmer's cocoa butter but found it too greasy and smells too strong xx

I'm using the palmers tummy butter, it is a strong smell - but a really tasty chocolate one! I find it even though it's a bit greasy, it soaks in the best and if I apply it in the evening then again the next evening, I can still feel how soft my belly is!

I tried bio-oil but it just tended to soak into my comfy clothes/bed sheets.

Only 22wks though so not that big right now! Hopefully it pays off (-:

I think bio oil was the best

newmomof1 · 11/06/2019 11:04

I didn't use anything, and didn't see any stretch marks until DD was born but now I have lots around my belly button, so although I don't have a product to recommend, don't assume that just because you can't see them that they're not there

I believe i've read that it's purely genetic, whether you get stretch marks or not, and the oil doesn't help either way. That said, I used bio-oil in my first pregnancy and had no stretch marks at all, and it does feel good to be doing something to help, even if it is placebo!

Thanks all, im very very early days, im only 5 weeks, but I have a bit of a belly already its so weird? Im naturally very slim so find it bizarre. If its genetics then im screwed anyway haha but I will try something anyway just incase! x

@ghost88 don't panic. I'm naturally very slim (you could see my abs) and I had a bump at 6 weeks (may have been water rather than baby etc but I looked pregnant). I'm now 32.5 weeks and my skin is perfect and no stretch marks so just because you show early doesn't mean you will get stretch marks.

wikowiko · 11/06/2019 11:51

I didn't get stretch marks though I think that's genetic and there's not much you can do about it. I used sweet almond oil which really helped with itchy skin as it stretches. Don't use on the same day as a scan - I had to go back for an extra one because they couldn't see properly. Sweet almond oil also great for dry baby skin Smile

I use Clarins Body Tonic Oil - it comes highly recommended.

I'm 28 weeks now and on my 2nd bottle, I've been using it morning and night.

Lovely product and feels like such a treat!

I also bought some Clarins stretch mark minimising body cream for after pregnancy.

As a PP said it’s all in your genes unfortunately. I used bio oil in my first pregnancy, spotted my first few around 25w and was covered in them by the end. I’m currently 32w with #2 and I’ve not bothered using anything this time as didn’t see the point. So far no new ones!

blueskiesbrighteyes · 11/06/2019 16:47

Neal's Yard Mother's Balm is fab, although it is pricey (£20 a pot)

annlee3817 · 11/06/2019 16:51

I didn't get any and didn't use anything, but have heard coconut oil is meant to be good, and if nothing else smells nice :)

EscapeTheOrdinary · 11/06/2019 20:18

I’m using palmers stretch mark moisturiser and expert midwife. I have seen it’s all down to genetics but I figure anything that helps my skin stay soft and hydrated will help with any itchiness if I do get them

Buddytheelf85 · 12/06/2019 10:34

Agree with blueskies about the Neal’s Yard balm, it’s really nice. Don’t know if it actually prevents stretch marks though but I figure massaging your belly is good for all concerned anyway.

I’m 34 weeks and can’t see any marks yet, but I think a) a lot of women develop them right near the end and b) sometimes they’re there but you can’t see them until after birth (like how you can’t see wrinkles on a balloon till it pops). So I’m certainly not counting any chickens.

I've just started using Burts Bees Mama Bee range, they do a belly butter which is unscented and an oil too which smells of lemons. I love both! But some reviews from mums to be said they found the smell of the oil too strong, so maybe don't use it if you've got a sensitive snoz! It's also reasonably priced at about £8 a bottle/tub which I didn't think was too bad for something aimed at mums (is it me or is anything to do with mums/babies expensive!).

I'm only 16 weeks so can't say if it helps or not, but all I know is that I got a few stretch marks on my hips just from puberty so I'm game for trying everything!
