How do they avoid telling the sex if don't want to know? Can you see much at all?

They just don’t mention the sex at all if you say you don’t want to know.

How much you can see depends on babies position.
My DS1 - had his legs crossed so his genitals were completely invisible. The sonographer had a good long look to try and find out but couldn’t see a thing.

DS2 - had his legs wide open and had managed to position himself so that when the sonographer put the probe on my tummy, the first thing anyone saw was his genitals. Impossible to miss knowing his sex if you knew enough about ultrasounds to know what you were looking at!

When we told the sonographer we didnt want to know the sex she said she wouldnt even check.

And I was looking at the screen the whole time and didnt see anything that gave the game away.

They don't look until the end and they ask you first! The sex isn't even something they check unless you ask but maybe mention it when you go in just incase xx

At mine we said that we didn't want to know beforehand and she told us at the end that she had checked just to make sure everything was ok down there (which it was!) My partner and I were staring at the screen the whole time she was doing the exam and didn't notice a thing (first baby, so we def wouldn't have guessed!) But I would say it beforehand if you really don't want to know just to avoid a slip of the tongue ;)

Genitals isn't one of the things they check as part of the scan, unless you ask. So if you don't want to know they won't tell you and are unlikely to see- they check bladder, bowel and femur length but have to twist the probe to focus on the genitals due to how ultrasounds work do you'll see between the legs but won't see what is there unless they focus in on it.

We were asked at the start if we wanted to know and we said no thank you. Just got told to look away when she was looking at the legs. My mum is now convinced it is a boy but not bothered either way

Sorry to jump on the thread but have some questions about 20 week scan

Do you need a full bladder like 12 weeks?
Do I need to take a urine sample?

Thanks! Ps I'm team yellow!

I was so nervous about my 20 wk scan being ok, that I didn't say I didn't want to find out. The Sonographer referred to baby as "he" a few times, but then asked if we wanted to know and we said no. Of course he was a boy. So do say if you don't want to know.

mylatestname · 11/06/2019 17:36

Ps scan pic looked very boy like too Blush

yellowgreenbluepurple · 11/06/2019 18:23

I would say with my daughter I wouldn't have guessed, bit my boy scan was very obvious so definitely tell them at the start if you don't want to know 😂

userabcname · 11/06/2019 18:32

I had mine last week and it all looked like blurry splodges to me! But do say just in case there's a crystal clear potty shot I guess. I never saw with my first son either!
