Travelling for work

I’m currently 31 weeks pregnant with our first child. My job currently involves staying away from home 2-3 nights per week, 3 hours away from home. The rest of the week I work from home generally. Later this week I have a meeting with my employer to discuss my work schedule for the remaining weeks I’m at work. I’m considering asking if I can work from home full time from July but I’m wondering if this will be seen as a reasonable request and for those who have been in a similar situation when did you stop travelling for work?
Many thanks!

I do think it’s a bit unreasonable to ask for work from home when your role requires just UK travel. In my workplace where there’s only UK travel involved you would be asked to take your outstanding holiday / early mat leave if you couldn’t manage. It’s another matter entirely if you’re taking longhaul flights.

I work away about the same amount as you do too, and from home when I'm not travelling. I'm 27 weeks pregnant at the moment, but my employer has already spoken to me about my intentions and have been very flexible to be honest about it all, I was quite surprised, as I wasn't sure what to expect with it being my first pregnancy.
I'm not sure what your job involves, but part of mine does involve me going onto active building sites, so there's a potential health & safety/risk assessment issue there when I get closer to my due date. Also my 'local' office is 180 miles away, so I am on the road a great deal too!
My plan, as agreed with my boss, is to work normally for as long as I feel comfortable, but I am hoping to probably work from home predominantly from about 35/36 weeks, providing I'm feeling okay of course.
Perhaps just be honest and see what they say, as I said, I've been touched by how lovely and accommodating my employer has been already, and I think any employer genuinely wants to support you during this time.
Good luck, I hope your meeting goes well at the end of the week! Smile

Err at 30+ weeks I think that's a very reasonable request. Also they could just reduce the amount or have a risk assessment in place.

I think its perfectly reasonable! Don't ask, don't get. The worst they can say is no in which case you can look to use your remaining annual leave to finish up a bit earlier.

Thanks for your feedback all, much appreciated. I’m happy to be flexible with my employer as they have been good with me during my pregnancy. My main reason for asking is that as it gets closer to my due date I don’t want to be three hours from home then something happens.

@Teddybear45 you can’t take flights after 35 weeks anyway so somebody travelling long haul wouldn’t have the issue.

I definitely think it's reasonable to ask!
