Long story short, I'm 15 weeks pregnant and as of yesterday had sharp abdominal pains in various places. This morning they got worse so I called the MW, who sent me to my GP. GP had no idea and sent me to A&E. After seeing 4 consultants, doing 2 urine tests and one blood test, they let me go home with 'it's probably not pregnancy related, try some gaviscon'..

Anyone have any idea what it could be?! If they're right and I just need to forget about it?! So confused.

Constipation; round ligament pain; trapped wind; pulled muscles;

All these things can cause pain during pregnancy. By the sounds of it you’ve had a pretty good check up today, have they recommended taking any pain relief for the time being?

Andersonx3 · 10/06/2019 16:38

@Rememberallball they bought all of those things up but with various test results & symptoms could say it was any of them. They've literally said 'try gaviscon' and thats it.

They haven't done any feeling of my abdomen, just the urine and blood tests. Urine showed that there were white cells in the sample but they didn't expand on that so harmless I assume.

So you've been investigated, and seen 4 different specialists (for free!) who are happy it's not serious. What exactly are you complaining about??

Thursday452poh · 10/06/2019 16:41

Blood and urine didn’t show infections.....so they’ve sent you home? Perfectly normal!

PugPupsMum · 10/06/2019 16:48

Did they actually check baby with either a scan or a Doppler?

Could just be growing pains, I got sharp pains as my uterus was stretching

The job of A&E is to look for anything serious like appendicitis, kidney infection, perforated bowel, ectopic pregnancy etc. Presumably they have discharged you because they can’t find anything serious or worrying causing your pain and therefore they cannot do much other than give you pain relief and see how it goes.

@NaughtyLittlePassport unfortunately the words 'it's 'probably' not pregnancy related' haven't put me at ease. Not quite a complaint, more asking if people have been through something similar and could maybe throw some suggestions my way.

@PugPupsMum they did nothing to check baby, only bloods & urine to look for infections etc

@Thursday452poh thank you, I'll try and relax a little and hope they subside.

Yes, been through similar with 2 pregnancies. Lots of unexplained pains at various stages - everything’s growing and shifting around!

Hollowvictory · 10/06/2019 17:15

Have you taken the gaviscon as advised?

Sabee · 10/06/2019 17:31

Andersonx3

Sorry you are going through this Flowers

Try their advice, and if things don't improve, you can always seek further help.

Unfortunately, these kind of aches and pains are so common in pregnancy. The other day, I needed to do a bowel movement, I had just come in from a shopping trip, and the pain was so sharp I couldn't put my foot on the floor to walk forwards. (I seem to having lots of issues related to bowel movements in my current pregnancy!)

If it is digestion related, look at what you are eating, whether you are drinking enough water... gas pains can hurt!

I mean, it is pregnancy related in terms of the fact that your digestion slows down when you're pregnant as your body is trying to absorb all the nutrients from your food, and things like constipation is common etc. so you may have to rethink what you are eat etc.

Have a warm bath (helps me go to the loo and release gas Blush, rub your tummy anticlockwise..sooth your tummy area, and see what happens.

@Andersonx3 Hmm, contrary to what all the other posters seem to be saying, I would be demanding a check of the baby. If not at A&E, your doctors surgery or maternity unit.
