Prodromal labour

I'm 33+3 and after a hectic day yesterday I went into prodromal labour (false labour).

I had contractions every 3 minutes for about an hour and a half. I called maternity triage and they told me to take some paracetamol and try and rest and if it carried on, call back.

After a while I fell asleep and today woke up fine. I've been getting occasional contractions today but few and far between.

I'm just worried that this means the baby will be coming soon(ish) but it's still too early.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Sorry I'm not sure but I hope someone had answers for you.
Wishing you good luck! Thanks

Is it definitely primordial labour and not Braxton hicks?
I had a PL (lasted about a week) but around due date- midwife said its usually when baby is back to back (he was) and trying to turn
That wouldn't usually be the case as early as 33 weeks I wouldn't have thought?
Best of luck

Mrsmummy90 · 10/06/2019 21:19

@anothernewone yes it was. Dd is back to back and breech. Awkward baby lol.
I'm just worried about going too early.

Fingers crossed she's trying to turn

Hopefully she'll hang on and won't arrive too early

If it helps I had this from 27 weeks with DS and he was eventually born at 41 weeks! In and out of hospital until 35 weeks when they decided it was fine to go into labour at that point..

Mrsmummy90 · 10/06/2019 22:02

@anothernewone thanks!

@PixieDust26 that's really reassuring. What were your contractions like? Were they regular?

I’ve had two prodromal labours. But not as early as you. My second was from about 37w and baby was born at just over 40. Endless evenings of contractions and then waking up with nothing. I agree about baby positioning as both of mine were back to back. Maybe when you get a bit closer you should spend some time on all fours - that’s what made mine turn in the end

Mrsmummy90 · 10/06/2019 23:17

Glad to hear that prodromal labour doesn't necessarily mean that labour is coming very soon.

I'll definitely try all fours more. Have done it a couple of times over past week but it's hard to stay there too long as I have SPD so get sore quite quickly. Also, my 16mo dd finds it funny to come up behind me and play drums on my bum 😂

How long did your false labours last (hours wise)?

Sometimes several hours I’m afraid. Usually late in the day/evening but not always. I’d often go to bed expecting midnight chaos but it never did, which makes me think it was maybe to do with being upright/moving around. I was never woken by contractions

handmademitlove · 11/06/2019 19:28

Regular contractions that were clear on monitoring, but no dilation. Most evenings were spent on the ward being checked just in case. Sometimes kept in overnight... In my case they were very concerned due to my first being a precipitate labour. It was not much fun and I did ask at what point they wouldn't worry about me going in to labour. At that point I stopped going in. On the plus side actual labour was very fast!
