Should I be worried? Blood in urine as approaching 37th week

The hospital have sent off my urine as they detected red and white blood cells in it after a routine check, she said I may have a UTI. I don't have other symptoms of a UTI but I have since googled to learn they can cause complications during birth. I'm 36+4 weeks and having lots of strong tightenings. The doctor said I can get my results in a week when I come in for a diabetes check I already had booked in and they've waited 10 weeks of excess fluid/polyhydramnios to arrange the glucose tolerance test and it seems a little late in the day but having not seen the same consultant twice this pregnancy they've all made different decisions on my care moving forward to the one I've seen before. I guess I'm wondering if a UTI or infection has ever been detected for anyone else so late in the pregnancy, is it easily treatable, and what does it mean for going forward? Also I'm o negative and need anti d usually if risk of blood crossing the placenta, would there be in this case? X

No risk of blood crossing the placenta if its a uti.

I cant help on everything else except to say that if you have concerns about your care then call up and make an appointment to go through everything and make them take notice of you. You deserve just as much care and attention as you need to be comfortable that you and the baby are being treated properly. Dont fall through the gaps

Thanks @seatoski, I walked away thinking they know what they are doing just wait for the results but over the weekend I've started to think more into everything and googling which isn't helpful I know. X

The risk of uti is it can cause premature labour but your full term in 3 days.

I thought they couldn’t test for gestational diabetes after 34 weeks.

@hormonesordhbeingadick I really don't see the point now in the diabetes check either, I've had polyhydramnios diagnosed again (also in the 2 previous pregnancies) and baby showed above 95th centile line but still 1 of the 4 consultants I'd seen said no need to test as baby would be bigger than 95th if I had it, I had smaller babies previously where they've tested for it so that's strange in itself. The previous consultant to him said I'd be booked in for the test at that appointment had my waters increased again, they had but he disagreed so didn't. 4th consultant said she'd send me but earliest appointment was when I'm full term. So I'm just confused but concerned also.x

I have just been diagnosed with excess fluid too as a result I’m being tested for diabetes as well as exposure to other stuff. Baby is on the 90%. The midwife mentioned a couple time that the test can’t be done after 34 weeks.

@hormonesordhbeingadick I'll question that when I contact them in the morning. I don't want to not eat over night to be refused the test at the hospital. X

I was told I was at risk of a UTI or that there may have been an contaminated urine sample. I felt fine at the MAU. 2 days later I had a cracking UTI and was at my GP practice for antibiotics. It's worth keeping an eye out for symptoms in the next few days.

ChachiChichi · 09/06/2019 17:13

I'm 36+5 and was hospitalised with a UTI infection which in turn caused a kidney infection just last weekend. I was on an IV drip for 3 days and on antibiotics for 12 days. I honestly felt fine until I woke in the middle of the night with pain in my left side and feeling (then being) sick. I'd had a urine test a couple of days before which only detected white blood cells. I still can't believe how quickly it came on, but I'm feeling pretty much ok now :) I was just told labour might start earlier than my due date, but no sign of baby yet!

Justus22 · 09/06/2019 18:26

Oh no I will keep an eye on it, glad you're both OK. Xx

Quite common apparently in the third trimester, as everything is squashed and shifted by the baby, so when you think you've emptied your bladder fully you probably haven't and then pools sit lower down and get stagnant (think that's the word consultant used) and create bacteria. Tip was to go for a wee, stand up jiggle around a bit them sit and try to squeeze more out. I had three in the final weeks, one during labour, didn't bother me until she was born though. The one before that caused such bad back pain that friends thought I was in labour, that was after being told they'd detected something in my urine and be fobbing it off as wasn't symptomatic. So, keep an eye out for any other symptoms
