Severe all over back pain - 37 +3

Hi All

First post here - please be gentle! Since Saturday, I've been getting the most excruciating back pains from the bottom of my spine right up to the top of my neck - can be once to four times an hour and the pain is usually relieved by going onto all fours. I called the midwife and she said I was in labour, but I'm not getting any abdominal pains. Has anyone else experienced the same? Could it be a trapped nerve? Seeing my doctor tomorrow but really could do with some reassurance...

My labour was completely in my back. NO adominal pain at all, so maybe your midwife is right!!!!

The penny dropped with me when I said to dp this awful backache (and it was in my bottom too) is coming every 3 minutes!!!!

When I got to the hospital I was 8cm dilated - and still no tummy pain.

Does it come on by itself or when you put your self in a certain position?

It really comes on by itself. I've tried to relieve it by trying different positions (lying on my back is the worst) but I seem to get it whatever position I'm in. I really thought labour was all about abdominal pains - didn't think it could just be back pain

if it is coming at regular intervals then sounds like it could be labour!

My labour with DS1 was all in my back and constant - I never felt a contraction. The first I knew I was in labour was when my TENS machine batteries ran out and I needed to push! We were spine-to-spine which was why I felt it all in my back. HTH.

Ds and I were back to back too - hence all the backpain. Apparently it's worse!

KitKat, I think I'd pop along to your hospital if your pain is becomming unbearable.

Sounds like your little one has turned round i.e. babys spine against your spine. This is exactly what my labour was like, admitedly I was induced (3 times!) at 38 weeks but it sounds like "back labour" to me.
