I am currently 24 weeks pregnant with twins.

This is my third pregnancy, and I started feeling them move at 10.5 weeks! We are lucky enough to have a scan every 4 weeks, and the last one was last wed. All growth etc is well on track, but I have just one little worry!

I don't feel as much movement from twin 2 who is on my right side, as I used to. I know he is ok as we have a doppler, and just use it every now and then. (No midwife has listened in to them, but I presumed that was because we have the regular scans). But I do get concerned that I don't feel as much from twin 2 as from twin 1...

Please could you help??

Hi smellymelly - at 24 weeks your twins will be changing position quite a lot so it will actually be difficult to tell which twin is actually doing all the moving TBH. Try and be reassured by your regular scans. It is highly unlikely that something will be untoward with your babies if the scans have been good, you are feeling well and there is no bleeding. I would advise you not to listen in with a doppler because it is not always reassuring as Quackers will tell you. When I listen to twins it has to be with 2 monitors at the same time to make sure that there are 2 different heart rates.
Since you are at 24 weeks with no problems I am sure they are both fine. Enjoy you pregnancy

Thankyou, I will relax then.

What was the problem Quackers had with the doppler?? If you don't mind me asking.

here is is here . I don't think Quackers will mind.

SM - Would it not be sensible to go to your midwife and get her to check the heartbeats etc just in case (if it is worrying you a lot) P.S dont want to undermine Mears EXCELLENT reassurance but surely nothing is better than seeing a midwife and her double checking?

Tessiebear · 15/09/2004 12:40

I know nothing about twin pregnancies by the way - just a mum who always gets herself in a lather about babies movements. When i was pg with DS2 i was worried he wasnt moving much so they hooked me up to the monitor for and hour and it reassured me all was well!

mears · 15/09/2004 12:46

That certainly is an option tessiebear. You could contact the hospital for reassurance and the midwife would listen in or they could do another scan. Monitoring is not helpful at 24 weeks though - babies too small and active to get a decent CTG (continuous monitoring)

Tessiebear · 15/09/2004 12:49

Sorry Mears - didnt mean to go against your advice - but felt it was always best to check

mears · 15/09/2004 12:51

not at all tessiebear. You are quite right really.

Just thought I would update -

I rang today as still very quiet on one side, and they told me to come in immediately for a scan. The scan was ok, it actually showed the other twin has a reduction in the amniotic fluid, so they will scan me again in 2 weeks.

Next time I won't leave it for so long before I ring them. They were great, and told me at any time I have any worries, day or night, I should go in. I was worried they would think I was wasting their time, but they were adamant it was better to get checked then stay at home worrying!

Just thought I would pass this on in case anyone else has any concerns.
