SPD pain

Hi all

I’m 36 weeks and struggling with debilitating SPD pain. I’m hyper mobile in all of my joints so I’m predisposed to this condition I suppose but I’m really struggling. Physio exercises don’t seem to be helping and I’m just at the point where I dread going to bed because it’s so bad when I’m lying down.

Can anyone tell me it disappears once baby’s here?!!

I'm 12 weeks postpartum. I had severe spd. I first had symptoms at about 11 weeks pregnant. Crutches by 28 weeks (though could have used them far earlier but that was when I finally saw a physio who recommended them to me). Immobile almost completely by 34 weeks.

But I'm basically fine now. Ok, my fitness is still shocking. But I can walk for half an hour now. I still do get a bit twingy by the end of that, but I can do it.

I walked out of the hospital without crutches even!!!

So it might not be completely gone right away, but you should at least feel much much better!

Oh and I'm breastfeeding, which I've read might make it longer a little bit.

@physicskate oooh crutches? Poor you. To be honest I feel like I could use them! It’s so horrible because I’m SO active, out walking my dog for 90 mins a day as well as keeping up training at the gym. I’m not used to having to rest 😢

Yeah, you need to stop when it hurts... this is not the time to push yourself. Keep as active as you can, but really don't push yourself.

You're almost to the end!

I found the hardest part of pgp was the psychology of it and found it easier to manage the closer I go to my due date. I was signed off at 30 weeks as I could really walk from the parking lot to my building, and my job involved lots of walking and carrying as well. It was tough for me to 'admit defeat'.

Make sure to follow the advice from the pelvic partnership, if you're not already!
