Would 14 + 2 be too late for Nuchal scan?

I might have to postpone my scan by a week, by then I could be 14+ 2 but could be a week less as I have irregular periods. Just wondering what’s the latest you ladies have had Nuchal scan? X

I've just read that 13+6 is the upper time limit to ensure accuracy. I was 12 weeks ish with both of mine.

I’m in a bit of a pickle as can’t you also have a blood test to pick up the 3 things they test for up to 20 weeks? It’s just a mine field 🤯

Yeah that would be too late I think. I was put forward nearly a week and only just got it done at 13+5.

Kate3150 · 07/06/2019 18:05

Are the blood tests just as accurate? I’m confused! C

I couldn’t get a clear picture on my 12w Nuchal measurement anyway so got the blood test at 16 weeks

We had our dates put forward at the first scan so was deemed 14 plus 2 at scan and they wouldn't do nuchal. They did the quadruple get which is really inaccurate/vague depending on age. We ended up paying for the harmony test for a bit more certainty after such fluffy results from the quadruple. It was actually reassuring in the long run as the Harmony is so definite, by expensive.

Blondiecub0109- can you explain a bit more about blood test? Ie. Does it test for all 3 and accuracy?
Dancingandthedreaming-what is the harmony test? When does that have to be done by? I wouldn’t mind paying x

The blood test just looks for downs. You get extra scans to look for Edwards and Patau.

As for Harmony - it usually costs approx £500.
Maybe more as you need a test that tests for all three conditions.

JuniperNarni · 07/06/2019 18:19

The quad test only tests for chance of downs.
You can book the harmony test privately, I have never done it but I believe it's about £300.

Kate3150 · 07/06/2019 18:26

I’ve just had a look, it would be £400 in my local area for all three. I’d probably consider that anyway, thanks for all your help 💜💜💜💜💜💜

@Dancingandthedreaming- would you recommend Harmony? X

As others of said it just looks for Downs. And then they wrote to me stated the chance as 1: whatever 10000 it was (tiny)

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 08/06/2019 06:20

I had Harmony for my last pregnancy - it's far more accurate than the standard NHS testing as it's a precise genetic test that looks at the fetal DNA in your bloodstream. If you can afford it and you're worried about it, I'd do it. I think NHS is now using it too but only for pregnancies viewed as high risk (mothers over 40 maybe?)

Dancingandthedreaming · 08/06/2019 11:28

For peace of mind, absolutely. We'll worth a chilled pregnancy (relatively...)

I'm in Ireland and these scans are not done as routine. I asked my midwife from reading on here why it wasn't done and she said 96 in every 100 babies are born perfectly healthy, she said these clinics are preying on women's anxiety and making a fortune from it. I'm 40 and was anxious enough but as she said women are having babies since the start of time & to just relax & enjoy it rather than reading all the bad.
A case over here at present is about a couple who had a tfmr after getting the wrong results back. The baby was perfectly healthy. So I've decided to put the money towards baby stuff rather than feeding my insecurities cause I know if these results come back perfect I'll just focus my anxiety on this pregnancy on something else.
