Hello Everyone - I am new here!

I am in my first trimester at 7 weeks. It's my first pregnancy and I am yet to see my Dr or midwife - it has taken 3 weeks for my appt, but I do have my first one next week with the Dr! Yay!

I know I am incredibly lucky to even be in this position but as it's my first and I have not yet been seen professionally, I can't help but worry I am not experiencing any symptoms. Apart from the positive pregnancy test, I feel like I'm not pregnant! I understand that I could potentially be just one of those 'lucky ones' - but I'm sure you can all understand why I'm feeling, is there something wrong?

Anybody else had similar experiences at this stage?

So, so many people don’t get any symptoms at all for ages, some don’t get them at any point during their pregnancy! Symptoms alone don’t tell you anything about the viability of your pregnancy.

It’s really normal not to see anyone for the first couple of months of pregnancy, the doctors rarely confirm your pregnancy with a blood test anymore as the at home urine tests are so accurate they just take your word for it, and you don’t see a midwife until your booking appointment which is around 8-10 weeks usually. So you’re right on track! There’s nothing a doctor can do or say early on other than congrats. I’m surprised your first appointment is with a doctor, are they carrying out booking appointments in your area or is it for something else?

I had a couple of early scans at five and seven weeks to check for ectopic and check for the heartbeat as I was high risk of ectopic and miscarriage due to some pre existing health issues and they really helped me, I know thousands of women just calmly wait for the twelve week scan but for me with my risk factors it felt impossible to wait that long (I’d have had to of course if they hadn’t called me in for those early scans). Have you considered a private scan? We went for one at 11 weeks after a bleed as the hospital didn’t do anything as it had stopped, they didn’t examine or scan or anything and I was beside myself wanting to make sure the baby was okay, it was a wonderful experience and did a lot of good for my mental wellbeing. You can usually have an early scan privately at seven to eight weeks and they’d hope to see a heartbeat at that stage if all is progressing okay.

It’s so hard not knowing isn’t it. I read up on all of the ways it could not work out: ectopic, blighted ovum, miscarriage, it’s the unknown that’s so difficult. But these early weeks do pass eventually, I’m twelve and a bit weeks now and it’s such a relief to finally have made it almost into the second trimester. Good luck!

Thank you so much for replying, it's really helped what you've said and made me think about things I hadn't thought about! So thank you :)

In the area I live, you have to (apparently - according to the drs surgery) have your first appt with a Dr. However, you are right, I believe this is just to inform them and they then send you on your way for your first booking appt with the midwife. So by the time I will get to my midwife I will be at least 8/9 weeks - so that fits in well with time scales from what you've said :)

My partner and I haven't actually told any family or friends yet - we are doing it this weekend! So I think that's why I have been a bit worried about no symptoms as I haven't been able to discuss this and be reassured by anyone yet! However, you've really helped me!

It's all very exciting but scary too. Not knowing if what you feel/experience is 'normal' or a 'worry'. But I guess that's the journey I'm on now ... All fun and games!

@Jan2020 have you contacted the Early Pregnancy Unit at the hospital? I'm only 6+4 and I had an internal scan yesterday (mostly due to my diabetes but I did self refer!).

It was only tiny but I could see the flicker of the heart beat which was so reassuring! Hope you get some confirmation soon xx

EmeraldRubyShark · 07/06/2019 15:58

MummyBear405 do the EPU in your area just give early scans because you want one? Or was it due to risks from diabetes? In my area you can’t self refer only via the GP and you can only have one if there’s a clinical reason. Or they’d be overrun with women who have no need for a scan but just wanted one.

You’re welcome OP! It’s my first baby too and it’s terrifying. I’ve really struggled with not knowing if it’ll end in a baby or a horrific loss. I’ve bled twice too which is awful. I guess whatever happens is totally out of your hands so at least you can see it in quite a fatalistic way!

Im 7 + 2 and other than getting period like cramps on and off, a stretching feeling in the muscles near my hip, bit of a sore back and feeling tired I've had nothing! Hard to know if it's all ok but guessing I'd know if something was wrong and even if it was I wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Waiting for the 12 week scan although it's very hard but logic is even if I went for an early scan and all was fine something could still happen between then and 12 weeks. Trying to stayed chilled out and enjoying feeling ok although it is hard! X

Tableclothing · 08/06/2019 13:20

I had loads of pregnancy symptoms and they suddenly disappeared in week 6. The EPU near me doesn't scan women who haven't experienced a lot of pain and/or bleeding, so I booked in for a private scan and saw baby all ok plus heartbeat in week 7.

I think there's a very wide range of normal.

poposaurus · 08/06/2019 13:29

Literally in the exact same boat! 7+5 today & no symptoms whatsoever! I just cant believe its actually real & keep taking tests to make sure they're still positive! Ive actually booked a private scan for tomorrow as don't think I can wait another 5 weeks xx

Thanks all for your comments!

It's all a little daunting when your pregnant, especially being my first and what we tend to see and hear is all about sickness, tiredness etc and so when you don't experience that, it feels like it's not real or that something could be wrong!

My mindset is that of course I want everything to be fine and I would give anything for that. But also, I can't change anything if something does happen I guess.

I'm definitely thinking into a early scan as lots of you have mentioned it. I hope that everyone that has had one it has gone well or does :)

@poposaurus - ive been stopping myself taking another test as I don't want to be disappointed even though I've had two very positive results previously. However, the day of my drs appt this week, I will, just to make sure!!!

This was me for the whole 9 months. A positive test, 2 scans and a bump which didn't pop out till nearly 20wks. Zero other symptoms. Ds is now 6.
