Dh and I were looking through another name book last night in a last ditch attempt to find a boys name we both love (wishful thinking!!!) and listed as boys names (and I'm deadly serious here!!) are Gaylord and Spunk. Do you think people honestly call their kids these names? Or am I just traditional and boring?

You should try Jamaica for really funny names - the hardest cop on the force (known for his looseness with a gun) was called Renato Valentino.
They say that the women usually chose/make up the names as the men "often" aren't around at and after the birth.....

We noticed the name Cnut (I think its pronounced 'canoot') in our baby name book. You wouldn't want to be misspelling that!

My friend managed to do a spectacular typo recently, booking herself onto a flight as Cunthia instead of Cynthia

I think Gaylord might be a completely legitimate Indian name - I've heard it as an Indian surname before.

Spunk, on the other hand, I can offer you no excuses for.

DH went to school with a Gaylord. So there is at least one out there...if he hasn't changed his name now.

According to babynames.com, gaylord is English!

Went to junior school with a boy called Fan (pronuncd Farn), Welsh, apparently. Then someone said it means f**k in Norwegian. Poor kid. Nice medieval boys' names: Gaydon, Urien and Orrible.

sockmonkey - can't believe your ds went to school with a gaylord!!!!! Was he english? What I'm getting at is did his parents realise what they had done to the poor boy rather than being from another culture and not understanding the connotations??!!

Can't believe some of these names people are coming out with!!!!

He was english yes. Not saying DH is old (he is only in his 30s,) but it was before gay was your sexuality, more a feeling I guess.

Can only assume Spunk is from the 1950s - like Butch, Brick, Chip or Brie. (Yeah I know Brie/Bree is a real name but it still makes me laugh .)

filch can't believe that!! Particularly with the meaning!!!! Lets hope there aren't many of them being born at the mo!

You reminded me though that when we were looking at girls names before we found out we were expecting a little boy we found Anal!!! not pretty....
