Hi all

First baby, 7 days overdue, not finding it much fun anymore! All the girls in our antenatal group have given birth early and are enjoying the delights of the early days and muggins here can't help feeling a little envious.

Have tried all the methods (and I mean all of them but to no avail. Appt with midwife on Wed for sweep but really hoping things will start before then. Not even getting any niggles.

Have had to email family and friends and tell them to stop asking me if I've had the baby! - like I'm not going to tell them when we do.

Words of encouragement required!!

Hi everyone

Can't believe how many of us there are overdue since I started this thread!

Anyway, had first sweep today - ouch. 1cm dilated, firm posterior cervix (bother) and baby's head still not engaged!!! Got Bishops Score of 4 but everything I've read on internet conflicts about what is a good score so I'm none the wiser.

Booked to go in tmw night for start of induction - scared, but also wouldn't look forward to another weekend without any action.

Still hoping sweep might have some effect, had a mini show afterwards and now backache but that's it.

Scubes, I'm the same - just snivelled all over DH.

I'm upset, frustrated, angry and frightened of the induction. I'm all out of brave and stiff upper lip-ness.

Sigh.

miniegg · 25/07/2007 20:30

me too.
this is just not what I planned on happening!
my induction isn't till Monday so I've still got time but I'm beginning to obsess about the whole situation which is hardly helpful!
the thought of another weekend with no baby!! i am going to sit down with DH tonight and plan lots of fun things to do at the weekend so that we're not twiddling our thumbs AGAIN!
am now booked for another sweep on Friday, which is also something to give me some hope. Though i found the first one (yesterday) amazingly painful so i'm not exactly gagging to have the experience again!
glad there are others on mumsnet to chat to- at least we all know what each other is going through!

CarGirl · 25/07/2007 20:39

Scubes just wanted to say I've been induced at St Peters 4 times, and it's okay there - on the labour ward they really are fab it's just the joan booker ward that's not great (go home asap!) with a bishops score of 4 at least something is happening all on it's own. Good luck - also write on your birth plan that you want the midwives to be your birthing partner and that your dh is just there to carry the bags and see baby as soon as born - did that last time and they stayed with me lots more than the previous times, they also said "best birth plan we've ever seen"

Dumbledorf · 25/07/2007 20:54

Hi everyone,
had to join in on this, am 40 + 10 and have tried everything!! Lots of us over on the July antenatal thread feeling fed up, if you fancy joining us.

Have had 2 sweeps and one acupuncture session, have been offered more acupuncture tomorrow but feels like a waste of £25 to be honest!

If you google the acupuncture pressure points for labour there's loads of stuff that's ok to do diy.

Am booked in for induction for Sat night, but really hoping it won't go that far, am kind of depending on the nipple twiddling and sperm to get me there before that!

Good luck everyone, try and keep your sanity - the end is somewhere in sight!!

miniegg · 26/07/2007 07:00

hey girlies...i've been up all night with contractions!
they are under 5 mins apart now. trying to stay at home as long as poss as reckon it's much nicer here than at the hospital.
however, am increasingly confident this is NOT a false alarm. i really think that finally the waiting is coming to an end...
have got a birthing ball and it's brilliant! have been bobbing up and down on it all night. def recommend it to those who haven't got one.
also took a bath and sat in there so long my skin turned to withered prune and my hair's all frizzy. hurrah! i look awful already and i've not even got to the bad bit!
any updates from anyone else?

Scubes · 26/07/2007 09:01

Morning all

I'm having contractions 6 mins apart, lasting for just under a minute so going to stay home and see what occurs! Booked in for induction tonight so hopefully things will progress smoothly and I wont need it.

Sweep must have done the trick and so far am managing the contractions although the thought that they will get a whole lot worse isn't very comforting

PS - Cargirl what do I need to look out for on Joan Booker ward then? Ive heard food is terrible, anything else?

miniegg · 26/07/2007 09:20

scubes, how are you passing the time?
i'm kind of hobbling between the living room and the kitchen, rolling my birthing ball with me. when a contraction is kicking in i can barely walk. got visions of having to be wheeled into hospital! really dreading the journey there though it shouldn't be more than half an hour max.
after nine hours of contractions 3-4mins apart they now seem to be slowing down. wonder if that's normal and really hope it doesn't mean i'm in for a marathon labour....

Moorhen · 26/07/2007 11:22

I'm so pleased for you miniegg and scubes - looks like you're really getting there.

And looks like I'm not going to, not under my own steam anyway. More show this morning but no contractions. Eight hours left... no chance...

Have already had one cry and feel another one coming on.

miniegg · 26/07/2007 11:32

ooh, i'm so sorry! i think i know how you feel as I was almost resigning myself to being induced and feeling pretty miserable about it. however, a girl from my antenatal class was induced last week and she was really positive about the experience. she did have an epidural and ventouse BUT she didn't even tear and she said it wasn't half as bad as she worked herself up to think it would be. basically she said it was fine! you can get through it!
she says, wincing between early labour contractions! suspect i will wimp out when the going gets really tough and have an epidural, despite all my fine intentions...have had nearly 12 hours of this now. some contractions are pretty okay; others are awful.

Moorhen · 26/07/2007 11:45

Choosing to avoid unncessary suffering is not wimping out!

Don't do that to yourself. I speak as someone that is currently feeling a complete failure for not even being able to go into labour without help, so I do know a bit about putting unreasonable pressure on yourself...

I am terrified. The one outcome I wanted least was induction. Would a million times rather have had elective cs than increased risk of episiotomy, forceps, tearing, emergency cs...

And of course my friends and f**king family all know induction is today so the sodding phone keeps ringing and I don't want to talk to anyone. But if I don't answer they all assume something's going on... I could SCREAM.

foxybrown · 26/07/2007 13:05

oooh, sounds like we can enjoy some birthing on here today!

keep up the good work, and keep posting! we all love birth threads on here! xx

CarGirl · 26/07/2007 13:55

Scubes (if you're still at home!) it's just noisy and there is a lack of staff etc, yes you don't get enough food because you are quite often ravenously hungry! When they are busy they are just so stretched. Plus the lights on the corridoors stay on all night so it's not dark and quiet, I just couldn't sleep got so overtired I went about 50 hours without sleep!

Scubes · 29/07/2007 07:30

Hi everyone

Moorhen I hope things have been OK, please let us know.

MinnieEgg you too!

I know this isn't a birth announcement thread but our little one finally popped out at 4.48am on Friday. Isabelle Rose. Well I say popped out - I was doing quite well with just my Tens machine and nothing else until the final furlong when a rather cross looking midwife told me I wasn't trying hard enough! AT which point I lost confidence and ended up having ventouse and a 3rd degree tear. Ouch.

Anyway we are all home now, Isabelle is not feeding but is sleeping so I'm off to a feeding thread for advice! Will look in here later to hopefully hear some good news and thanks for all your support last week x

Congratulations Scubes. The best things are always worth waiting for.
Newbies tend to sleep lots and not fuss about feeding in the first few days. I was told by the MW to wake ds every few hours to feed him and not to let him go more than 3 hours between feeds in the first week or so.

Enjoy Isabelle Rose

Nath · 29/07/2007 18:11

Congratulations Scubes - Moorhen and Miniegg, hope all is ok!

Also have some news - Amber Jayne arrived after a luckily short labour on Thurs 26th @ 10.30am......only 4 days late and well worth the wait!!!

Good luck all xxxx

Moorhen · 02/08/2007 11:16

Hi all,

Scubes and Nath, congratulations! So glad it all worked out for you.

And some news of my own (will do birth announcement soon, honest) - Luke Edward arrived on Friday weighing 7lbs 4ozs, safe and well (although too lazy to breathe for the first couple of minutes, eeek).

I was induced in the end and had to have syntocinon after breaking my waters produced three hours of painful cramps but b*gger all in terms of dilation. However, the hospital very humanely suggested I have the epidural before the drip, and so I managed to push him out after four painfree hours, with the help of two utterly fantastic midwives. Had one small 2nd degree tear but no stitches even.

After all that fear, the birth was a lovely relaxed experience, and DH and I are now spending several hours a day gazing at our beautiful son. Which explains why I've not been near the computer in days... he's more interesting even than Mumsnet...

Fingerbobs · 02/08/2007 11:36

Congratulations Moorhen! So very glad it's all good. And a lovely name too.

maisiemog · 03/08/2007 22:52

Sorry to crash this thread, but I am hoping Cazzybabs might be lurking on here. If you are looking in, could you go over to the October 2004 babies - Jbad lost Toby. We are sending flowers if you want to contribute.
Very sad.
Apologies to everyone on the thread for crashing in.

D2Jenx · 04/08/2007 12:31

congratulations to everyone - you have given me a little hope.
i am 41 +5 and i am booked in for an induction on monday. I have had two sweeps being told on my second (wed gone) that i was 3cm and my waters could be broken with a finger nail they are so ready. But still nothing. Not a pain in sight! I am getting really low about it but feeling a little better now reading your threads.
Everyday i cant help thinking is it going to happen today? looks like i am just going to have to wait till monday.
good luck to everyone else waiting xxxx

Moorhen · 04/08/2007 14:47

D2Jenx, I do really feel for you. If it comes to induction, sounds like you are in exactly the state of readiness I was, so with any luck you'll have just as good a time of it. Keep us posted and fingers crossed for you!

D2Jenx · 04/08/2007 18:02

thanks for your kind words. i will keep you posted x
