Baby not moving as much??

Morning! I'm 23 weeks tomorrow ..
Last 2 and a half weeks, I've started feeling my baby move and it's been a weird but comforting sensation.
Since last weekend I've noticed a lot more moves and stronger motions in the bottom of my stomach, but not felt anything as such for the last 24 hours and not sure whether to be alarmed or not?
I don't know whether I'm over thinking it, but because I've noticed it everyday and even now standing up instead of just at bed time .. I've noticed stronger movements .. to then not really feel anything I'm a bit anxious.
I appreciate everyone is different, but just wondered if anyone else had experienced this?

Think it'll be fine and I'll monitor it but just a bit concerned that it's gone from lots of movement to nothing.

It’s a worry isn’t it? Though probably all fine.
I went to the midwife unit and they did a dopler and were very kind and reassuring and told me to come back anytime I was worried.

Saydz92 · 06/06/2019 08:37

@Ohyesiam think I'll see if it moves throughout today and tonight and if no different maybe ring my midwife! But yeh, it's not a nice feeling!

I wouldn't wait to contact your midwife. If you've had reduced movements, give them a call.

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 06/06/2019 08:39

Call the midwife, I did the same at around the same gestation. Was called in and listened to babies heart beat but was told movements might be less due to anterior placenta. Baby sometimes can hide behind the placenta. I've been in 3 times for reduced movements now. Always worth calling.

Ohyesiam · 06/06/2019 08:39

If it’s making you feel bad I’d act sooner. X

Ifihadapoundd · 06/06/2019 08:39

Please have a look at 'kicks count' any change in movement should be taken seriously. Please contact your midwife.

If your worried then call your midwife she wont mind id say its always best to call and they will deside if they want u to go in. Drink a very cold drink, lay on your left side then on your back see if that makes your baby move ,if not lay on your sofa more up right and just relax and wait, sometimes it will take a few hours to feel movment . Im on my 6th baby im only 18wks ive had movment from very early on but its not every day so at times ive had to do this and it does help make my baby move. Also my midwife said eat something sweet or spicy that gets them on the move. Sometimes doing cleaning esp bending down my baby moves. Im sure your baby is fine,i do worry all the time so i know how hard it is x

Bubblebubble123 · 06/06/2019 08:50

Try drinking an ice cold glass of water and laying down really still for half an hour. Or even better, an ice cold can of coke!!

Passthecherrycoke · 06/06/2019 08:53

It’s very early so please don’t worry, perfectly normal not to feel movements for periods of time at this stage. Call your midwife for reassurance if you feel the need, they’re there to answer question like this

Babycakes1989 · 06/06/2019 12:04

I’m 24 weeks and a couple days ago I went in because of this. I had had a few flutters but they felt fainter than normal and it did seem less frequent. Called up my hospital who said it can be normal but if I was really worried to pop in any time and they will check. The anxiety continued to eat away at me as I sat at my desk at work trying everything possible to encourage a flutter of a movement so I popped in. They got the little babe moving, prodding and poking him to a point he was kicking the midwife back you could see it ! I cried with relief (hormones and very anxious!) she explained he still has lots of room in there and probably was facing my back where movements were harder to feel. Now since then I’m so much more relaxed and feel that with confidence if it ever happens again I could just nip in. Typically it seems he’s back doing his normal thing now which is good 😚 The midwifes smiley comforting faces were enough to instantly put you at ease and it doesn’t take long at all. Xx

Ring your midwife!! I have been told so many times that you should always call and sometimes the placenta isn't working and so many women miss it :(

Saydz92 · 06/06/2019 13:29

@Leleophants @Babycakes1989 @Passthecherrycoke @Bubblebubble123 @Angelinthenightx @Ifihadapoundd

Thankyou to everyone who has replied to this! I rang the children's centre where my midwife is usually based and she wasn't in. I rang the hospital and they said I can go in tonight and they will have a listen so hopefully I will know more tonight. Just at work at the moment so I apologise for the delayed reply !! But still no movement and it's driving me insane !!!

Hopefully it is normal , you worry so much when it's your first

Leleophants

“Ring your midwife!! I have been told so many times that you should always call and sometimes the placenta isn't working and so many women miss it sad”

Steady on there, it’s not something “so many” women miss as it’s not common certainly not in the early 20 weeks.

Plus I have just had a baby and counting the kicks was a huge thing with my first but 5 years on my midwives are not recommending counting anything and simply paying attention to changes in movements, bearing in mind that before late 20 weeks its perfectly normal for the feelings of movements to stop/ slow for long periods.

My midwife told me previous advice had meant some women being checked frequently (and you only have to look at forums like Mn to see why!) which some trusts have more far reaching consequences than just taking up midwives time, and had little evidence to back it up.

Passthecherrycoke · 06/06/2019 14:11

OP good luck for tonight, bet you’ll find baby has just got themselves into a funny position

Saydz92 · 06/06/2019 19:55

Just come back from the hospital. The woman who saw to me was so nice and like people said she was so understanding !
I couldn't apologise enough for feeling like I was wasting her time but she listened to baby's heartbeat and it was perfect! She explained it was good I came in to be checked out and if it ever happens again to ring up, but baby is happy ! So relieved!! Thankyou to everyone who replied to my post. It sounds silly but it's nice to be able to talk to people about when your feeling anxious or worried!

So happy for you, OP! It's happened to me a few times - felt baby somersaulting and all sorts in there and then nothing. You feel kind of hollow inside wondering if you did something to make baby stop or to hurt the baby - most of the time it's all in our heads as baby has so much room in there and is probably hiding in there!! (Definitely in my roomy tum-tum) glad you've been reassured. At least you could get to see a midwife - in my Trust, there's a midwife 24 hour line during the week but out of hours and weekends you have to go to the main A&E before 24 weeks

Heyha · 06/06/2019 22:20

I opened this to say don't be worried about ringing but I see all is well Smile I had to ring at about 24 weeks (I'd had really good, clear and promptable movements but baby had a couple of quiet days and wasn't responding to the usual tricks) and as triage is a fair old way from me they organised me popping into the local hospital for a Doppler instead, just a five minute job but all that was needed. They were trying to get me into a normal midwife clinic but they were all booked up. I then rang again at 32 weeks and got the full CTG and growth scan (also fine) but both times they were perfectly happy to find a way to check and reassure.

PixieDust26 · 06/06/2019 23:13

That's such good news! 😀
Always get checked out! I have been in a few times with reduced movements 😳 always reassured by the lovely midwives and doctors to come in if I'm ever in doubt x

Ohyesiam · 06/06/2019 23:37

Really pleased for you opSmile

Angelinthenightx · 08/06/2019 20:19
