False negatives.

Hey - just wondering if anyone’s had any false negatives before and how far gone they were when they finally got a positive?

I stopped taking my pill this year and I’ve had a few normal periods since then (between 29-32 three times) so I’d be quite surprised if my periods are suddenly messing up!

I’m on day 37 of my cycle now, keep feeling very nauseous, tired constantly, hungry ALL THE TIME. I’m currently on holiday and I just have no motivation to do anything! I took a test a couple of days ago (around 3 days after I’d missed my period) and it came back negative.

This is our first month of trying tracking ovulation etc, I am so desperate to be pregnant but I don’t know whether I’m overthinking things! I come home Friday night so I was thinking of waiting til then to do a test as I’ll be on 40+ days of my cycle then.

Sorry for the long post, just wondering if anyone else has had this kind of experience and any advice? :) thankyou

False negatives are more likely to occur when you test early or if you have an ectopic or molar pregnancy because often your hcg levels won’t be very high. If you have a normal pregnancy and are testing the day your period is due (or afterwards) then it’s very unlikely.

You said you were tracking ovulation this month so on what day of your cycle did you ovulate? Most women have a period 14 days after ovulation but ovulation is a moving target so it might not be the same day every month. Annoyingly, the symptoms you describe could be early pregnancy or just PMS. Hope that helps.
