When did you find it too hard to commute?

Hi all,

I am 26 weeks pregnant and will be going on mat leave 2 weeks before my due date. The thing is, I'm already finding the c.1hr on the train quite tough and uncomfortable (I think my bump is slightly bigger than the norm).

For anyone who has experienced commuting when pregnant, when did you start to find it too grueling? I can't imagine doing this at 8/9 months!!

Hi. I have a 3 hour commute door to door (car then train then walk) per day and I went on mat leave 2 weeks before due date and I’ll be doing the same with DC2. It was bloody awful, but I think you’ve got to have a pretty understanding employer for them to make any allowances. I feel your pain, good luck!

@Gettingonabitnow Oh wow, that makes my commute seem so short! Well done for you for having the stamina!!

I'm leaving work at 30 weeks. My twins will be here by 36 weeks, and I'm just so big and uncomfortable. My train and walk takes around an hour and I'm fed up. I'm 27 weeks now

I'm almost 36 weeks and still commuting - 30 mins walk and 30 mins train each way, or 50 mins train if I can't do the walk. It can be tough in the heat, but is generally manageable. I am carrying on till 37 weeks then working my last from home.

Could you take a cushion? I'm on a Thameslink train and it's rock hard!

I'd try hang on a little longer if only so you don't get too bored and lonely in your last trimester. Maybe your work will be flexible about timings for your commute?

I did up to 39 weeks, but I quite liked my nice quiet morning train with comfy seats. I did some work in central London around 7-8 months though and getting the very busy tube was rough.

I’m 33 weeks and finding it really tough now. I’ve got terrible heartburn and being bumped around on the train in the morning is really uncomfortable! Starting Mat leave at 35 and a half weeks.

I'm going to speak to my employer about working from home for a few weeks at the end and see what they say. It'll be during the handover period anyway, and my replacement can do any meetings on my behalf I expect at that stage, and the rest I should be able to do from home. Fingers crossed!!

1 have just started 2nd trimester of a high risk pregnancy - been told not to commute until my medicine protocol is verified by a consultant (and updates my notes), because there’s a risk that if I had a stroke or PE on the tube the drugs the paramedics carry could make things worse.

I finished at 34 weeks, I was ready to go, it was getting painful to walk!
