Hello all. I got a positive ovulation test but has faint test line! It has been 5 days since I ovulated and my period is due in 6 days?
What’s going on?
Could this be a sign of early pregnancy as surely there shouldn’t be a positive line on ovulation?
Confused

Assuming you are using a non-digital ovulation test then it is only positive if the test line is darker than the control line. What you describe doesn’t sound like a positive. It’s normal so have some lutenising hormone (the chemical picked up by OPKs) in your urine throughout your cycle, so I would not interpret that test as a sign of pregnancy.
You will read online that OPKs can be used instead of a pregnancy test sometimes. This is because Lutenising hormone and HCG (the pregnancy hormone) are very similar and an OPK won’t be able to tell the difference. BUT OPKs are designed to be positive only where there is a high level of LH and HPTs are designed to pick up tiny levels of HCG. So in practice you would get a positive on an HCG before (and probably quite long before) you’d get a positive OPK as a result of pregnancy.

Thank you for replying polly.
That’s what I thought however I have read up on people that say that their test line got dark as days got closer to their period and they was pregnant???
Could this be a possibility?
The test line isn’t faint it’s quite dark but a little bit lighter then the control line!
Hmm

If you only ovulated 5 days ago, even if you have conceived it's unlikely the egg has even implanted yet to release any hormones.

It is also normal to have an LH surge just before your period so you can have positive ovulation tests before your period.

So although in some cases it is possible for an ovulation test to pick up pregnancy, you won't know until you either do or don't get your period

Ov tests don’t work like preg tests: they usually show some sort of line and are only positive when it’s the same strength as the control.

The other posts that refer to darkening over time are referring to pregnancy tests, not ovulation test kits

I was getting consistent daily positive OPKs in the days leading up to my period, that was my first clue I was pregnant as they’d been reliable previously and shown negative when they were supposed to and positive when they were supposed to. It might mean you’re pregnant but also might not so I wouldn’t put too much stock into it just yet!
