Palpitations from carbs??

Bit of a weird one but since being about 6 weeks, I'm now 12+1, I noticed my heart pounding hard pretty immediately after eating anything sugary or carb heavy. Just had a jacket potato for lunch and now feel horrendous! Its an unpleasant combo of feeling sick and like I might die (a bit dramatic maybe but it really feels awful).

I have IBS and a previous with anxiety/depression so don't know if that is causing anything, but hoping this doesn't last.

Anyone else experienced anything like that before?

TIA :)

The only time I get palpitations is due to anxiety. It is actually perfectly normal for someone with anxiety to get palpitations when nauseous or during difficult bowel movements or even when slighly thirsty lol. Have gotten them during all three situations at some point.

Tell your GP about it - they may want to do further testing or refer you to a specialist.

This was / is me! It was gestational diabetes. I’d recommend getting a blood glucose monitor just to check your levels. They’re not terribly expensive and give accurate readings (comparable to blood tests and NHS issued kit, at least for me!). Good to rule it out if nothing else!

Might be worth getting checked for Gestational Diabetes! I was like this after something too carb heavy or surgery and sure enough I have GD

Yes could be early signs of GD. But also, though you're probably a bit early yet, my babe is breech and when it moves/sits up the head squishes my heart = palpitations. I thought it was food too and when for GD which shows borderline so untreated so far, but they check regularly.

I'm 32 weeks, so, spend a lot of time on all fours trying to get it to move . . .

Deff mention to midwife, and don't be scared if they consider an ECG too just for safety.
