Hi
Is it safe to do so ? I've read about avoiding lambs & nursing ewes when pregnant but what about other animals ? How about an up close feeding session with a giraffe ? Accommodation is actually in the safari park. Wondering what the risks are thank you.

A lot of animals carry toxoplasmosis so lots of handwashing (not just anti bac liquid). If you email the safari park they will be able to give you more info as they will have it as part of risk assessments

A Giraffe's saliva is antiseptic so I cant imagine there would be a problem feeding them.
If you are worried maybe give the company a call/email.

I was planning to take my husband to Port Lymph for a safari experience, overnight stay and feeding giraffes. I would have been 32 weeks. I spoke to the company and to my midwife and the only issue was the bumpy ride in the safari, not the giraffe feeding. In the end I decided not to do it because it was expensive and I would have to get in the bumpy jeep to get to the place went would be sleeping. I’m 33 weeks now and glad I didn’t do it as I wouldn’t have felt up to it never mind the bumpy ride !

I’d suggest ringing the company and having a quick chat with your midwife to see what’s involved.

I did this the other week at Port Lympne! It's amazing! Currently 27 weeks pregnant. The giraffes are close when you feed them but no where near enough to get licked!

The safari is bumpy, but DH told our guide I was pregnant and she just took it easy. They do go off the usual track when you're on the safari but it's not any more/less bumpy than when you are on the track. Plus you are in your own Land Rover (may be with another group but we were on our own) so it's not as bad as the usual truck they use.

Ah in that case maybe it would be fine ! Was it good Florencenotflo? What was the accommodation like ? I’m hoping to do it next year once I’m happy to leave baby with grandparents !

I had no one man to go by when I was going to book. The midwife said if id has no bleeding, complications then it should be fine but there was no way to know how I’d feel 10 weeks later (was booking early) and hard to tell quite how bumpy and uncomfortable it will be. It does look great !

No one to **

Sorry my spelling and punctuation is awful - I’m half asleep and on a train commuting so I will blame that !!

It was so good, my 3 y/o loved it! The accommodation was good, and so was the golf buggy you get to drive round the park! It's bloody hilly! I'm glad I wasn't walking it!

We stayed in a woodland lodge, which was lovely, compact but perfect for 2. With dd it made it slightly more snug. But still great. We enjoyed going round the zoo after it was closed, Dd saw so many animals. I think if you were to go in the height of summer you wouldn't be able to use your golf buggy during the day, but we went in May, the weather was great and it was still quiet.

And if money isn't a problem, look at tiger lodge! It looked amazing!

Port Lympne is wonderful and the staff are very kind- they'll not take you the bumpy way!

fairiesandelves · 03/06/2019 14:42

I've rung them they said check with your gp so I will. Son in law booked for DD as a surprise. 2 year old DGS will love it I'm sure. They're staying in a tree house ? Good to hear about the golf buggy too. Thank you.

Midwife given the green light unless the giraffe has recently given birth in which case don't get close. All good and thank you everyone!

No, the youngest calf they had was around a year I think. Enjoy it!
