Static growth at 35 weeks

32 weeks scan showed baby predicted weight st 5lbs and sonography jokes about elephants (AC 98%, FL 40%, HC 50%), but the consultant suggested there was a decrease in growth velocity.

My midwife appointment last week (at 35 weeks) shows my bump hasn’t grown at all in last two weeks (possibly even shrunken 1 cm) so she marked my notes advice static growth, sent me for immediate monitoring and booked growth scan for tomorrow.....

I also have mild high blood pressure (no pre-eclampsia symptoms), am over 40 and have a dd who was born small (7%) at 37 weeks due to pre-eclampsia.

If growth on scan on Monday shows static will they get her out immediately (at 35+3) or leave me with increased monitoring for another few weeks? Any experience from anyone? Having had 2 mmc since my dd I’m ultra paranoid!

I had static growth with my first but was monitored heavily towards the end, induction was talked about however it was move of a choice than a necessity, “ we can induce if you want, but his heart rate is strong”. So I decided not too.

It’s hard to tell as midwife measuring isn’t accurate to the size of the baby... but static growth toward the latter end can be a sign that the placenta isn’t working as effectively as it should be. When DS1 was born my placenta was in a really bad way they said so this would explain static growth.

I’d prepare somewhat for them to say if there is they might:
Keep you in
Induce you
Or bring you back for daily scans

I’d say your age would be a factor as well that they will also consider as lots of my 40+ friends were induced at 37 weeks

Thanks pppp I guess I should put my bags in the car - we’ve already put emergency cover for dd’s school pick up in place just in case.

Not sure why I can’t see my thread in the ‘pregnancy’ chat section as I’m sure that’s where I put it so I’m bumping to get into actives Smile

How did you get on Op?

EAIOU · 03/06/2019 19:52

Hope you got on ok. I was induced only few days before due date due to static growth but LO was nearly 7lb so hoping it's a case of measuring error! Good luck

Thanks for checking back in ladies - I spent most of the day up at the hospital yesterday.

Baby’s tummy has actually shrunk since my last scan 3 weeks ago, but head and legs are growing still close to the lines they were on last time.

The doctors made it clear they think there’s a problem, but as her brain is seemingly still developing, they want to keep her on the inside for another week.

Also noted ‘bright bowel’ on scan so have had loads of tests for infections, CF and others.... they also want to find out the results of these before birth, just in case they need to be ready for anything.

So I have to go in for an hour or so of monitoring every third day, scan again next Tuesday, and run in immediately if any hint of not feeling well! Not helping my paranoia, but feeling well looked after Smile

Sending you lots of love! That must be so worrying for you. Least you're being monitored closely and you're looked after!

Will they decide to induce at a certain point?

ditzzy · 05/06/2019 00:44

At the moment she’s lying transverse, so no induction unless she turns... I also had a c-section after a failed induction with my dd a few years ago, so they’ve said they can’t try too hard on inducing this time before swapping to section.

I’m hoping they won’t suggest leaving it too long.

Thanks for your thoughts

Just in case anyone ever finds this thread while searching for “static growth”.

Dd2 was born by elective section last Friday at 39 weeks, weighing 6lbs 2 ozs. So smallish but not ridiculously tiny. Appears to be perfect! Although much smaller than the final scans suggested - they’d called off the growth alert on a scan at 37 weeks that apparently showed she was growing again and was over 7 lbs.... 2 weeks before she came out that size. So I suspect she had genuinely stopped growing in size even if she was still developing.

They did a few extra tests when she was born, including heel prick blood glucose tests before the first few feeds, but no hint yet that the ‘bright bowel’ was actually anything.

So everyone is happy, healthy and enjoying the sunshine Grin
