Got told I have this at 20 week scan. I googled it and it says it can make delivery difficult if baby is back to back. Any advice welcome!

I have heard that, but it is very much possible to have a normal delivery without complications with an anterior. I have one and it can make feeling baby difficult so you may end up calling in to your obs unit more often to get checked over, at least that’s what has happened to me!

Anyone else?

Mines anterior too, I’m 20 weeks. They have just said that may not feel movement until later on. My scan is on Thursday, so will see if they say anything then

I had an anterior placenta, and although I had a couple of complications with delivery they were nothing to do with that!

The thing that surprised me was how late I felt any movement - 23 or 24 weeks before I felt what was definitely a kick/the baby. My doctor told me that you have to pay attention to what is normal for you with movements, and that a pattern may be over several days rather than every day the same. Which held true for me, DD would be really quiet for three days, then really active for two, then back to being quiet.

I once went in for reduced movement at around 32 weeks and even though I couldn't feel it I could see her kicking and punching away like anything on the scanner ..

I’ve never heard that anterior placenta can make delivery more difficult. I had a fairly straightforward birth with one.

If you’re worried about the position of the baby for labour there are plenty of things you can do in later pregnancy to try and get the baby into a good position.

I had an anterior placenta and it wasn't ever mentioned as something that could have an effect on giving birth. The only issue was difficulty in feeling movements.

I had an Anterior placenta and baby was back to back at delivery , ended up with forceps but as far as I'm aware it's nothing to do with the position of the placenta

ErrantTesselation · 02/06/2019 07:36

I had one with my second. Felt far less movement than with my first, which was anxiety inducing. But had a quick and straightforward delivery.

I had anterior it’s totally normal. I also felt movement early so just listen to your body everyone’s experience will be different etc. Amazing labour and delivery no issues here. Enjoy your pregnancy!

I had an anterior placenta with DS1 and he was back to back. I spent my final week of pregnancy on my hands and knees trying to get him to turn but it was not to be. If yours is back to back I really recommend a TENS machine. My labour was entirely in my back, I felt nothing across my tummy area at all. The TENS machine was a lifeline.

Don't want to ignite fear but I have had anterior placentas with both my dear boys .
With my first he was back to back. Labour was 26 hours, intense, and I had an epidural but I did it! Second boy just gas and air in the pool, took just 6 hours but he was a more favourable position. Babies move around all the time but I spent most of my final weeks with my first on my hands and knees and he just wouldn't move until 20 hours into labour !
I found the main difference was not the position of placenta but the position of baby , but ultimately baby came out just the same , you will be fine, good luck! X

I had an anterior placenta and back to back babies for both of mine. No one said it would make it more difficult during labour because of the placenta though.

I did find it stressful not feeling kicks very much. With my first I felt hardly anything and in both pregnancies I had to go for monitoring regularly as I couldn’t feel movements.

firstimemamma · 02/06/2019 07:59

I had an anterior placenta and had a very straightforward water birth.

I have an anterior placenta. I'm 38 weeks but they have not said it is any sort of cause for concern, it has moved upwards (well - my uterus has grown and it's resulted in it being higher up) as pregnancy has gone on.
I don't think you need to worry.

Sweety786 · 02/06/2019 09:06

I got an anterior placenta and baby prefers being in a back to back position, however babies keep moving right up until birth so try not to worry. Having an anterior placenta will not make a difference with labour, hopefully you have a smooth delivery. I'm currently 39+5
