I brought carbs back in and cut back on fat a bit so I had a balance. Ended up with enormous cravings for McDonald's breakfasts anyway. Can't wait to go back on it. Although will be BF so will have to be 50 grams of carbs a day rather than 20.

Keto in pregnancy would not be advisable. Your body and your baby both need a good supply of energy for all the growth and change that’s taking place.

I would have thought that it's very, very unlikely to be advisable.

I am not keto, not even low carb, and the midwife still told me at one of my appointments that I needed more carbs and good fats. Ketones in your urine (which I'm guessing is what you're trying in theory to produce on a keto diet? Correct me if wrong) can be a dangerous sign - they can be toxic to a fetus much quicker than they would be to you.

Growing a baby takes a huge amount of energy - both carbs and fat are 100% essential.

Excellent advice @SundayMorningSun

I have pcos and was low carb and high protein / fat. I had to change my diet as the baby needs complex carbs to grow. So it’s now a med-high carb, medium protein and low fat diet.

Yes it's likely ok for you to be in ketosis, provided you maintain your body weight and aren't trying to lose it. I've been told this from multiple midwives, the OB that I asked, and my GPs. you'll probably trigger the urine sample test they take at every appointment and they'll probably tell you you're dehydrated even if you're not, because they test for ketones for dehydration. Which isn't a test that actually works for that purpose, but if you're usually on keto, I'm sure you know this already.

No, keto is not going to be as easy to maintain it as it was preconception. This is all for practical reasons: tiredness, food aversions, if you have sickness, and if you get a need for food in the belly right now.

(Look up PregnancySicknessSupport.org.uk to get the whole deal if you're doubting at least the dehydration claim.) As for ketones and fetal development, I'm not happy with the quality of methodologies of the few studies I have seen. I don't think that there is any harm, provided you're eating enough to maintain your body weight, then add in a snack for second trimester then a bit more for the third trimester. I personally haven't been able to maintain keto, but I go into it if my migraines kick off.

I was low carb when i conceived. I asked my GP who said to make sure I was eating whole foods, but that she couldn’t see any issue with it.
Then the nausea started and all I wanted was white bread and chips!
