Pregnancy after c section

I had a c section (emergency) 10 years ago. I'm now 8 weeks pregnant. I feel anxious about pregnancy after a c section and the risk of uterine rupture. I can already feel things tightening and growing. It freaks me out!

Anyone have any wise words or can reassure me? I know people have babies all the time after caesareans. My scar has always felt tender and if I touch the area I get butterflies, no idea why, psychological I'm sure.

Please don't flame me Blush

Oh dear! I’ve had two babies by c section and it was fine, nothing ruptured. But you should definitely discuss your concerns with your midwife/doctor. Will you go for another section? Congratulations on your pregnancy Flowers

Thank you @Frusty

It's reassuring to hear you had 2 with no issues. I think I've just always felt a bit traumatised by the first delivery and so having that area affected by pregnancy is stressing me out. I will have another caesarean yes, too many problems trying naturally the first time.

I had emergency c section with daughter ( now 14)
When it’s been a long time your risk of rupture is so slim as your scar has had all that time to heal.
I had elective section with my little boy last year ( 14 months) and will be having another c section mid October. The risk this time is higher as such a short space of time for scar to heal but the odds are still very low. I’m not concerned.

I had an emergency c section with DD (horrible traumatic labour, but ultimately we were both physically ok). I was very upset after so had quite a bit of counselling which helped hugely - perhaps something to consider?

I had DS by elective c section just over 2 years after DD. No issues whatsoever.

Honestly think about whether having someone professional to talk to would help - it made an enormous difference to me.

I had an emergency c section, then less than four months later, we fell pregnant with DC2...
There's 12 and a half months between them, DC2 was an elective section.
Pregnant again with DC3, so will have three under three, a section again!

With the time between your pregnancies, you will be absolutely Fine.

Rupture is very very rare, particularly with such an age gap. But being pregnant again can bring up some upsetting feelings, so big hug to you

Thequaffle · 01/06/2019 16:34

You will be ok. My friend has had 3 c-sections. Massaging the scar area helps desensitise it and stop that weird omg-eww-I-just-touched-my-scar-I’m-never-doing-that-again feeling

I'm 36 weeks now and got pregnant 8 months after my last section, Drs weren't concerned at all

shivbo2014 · 01/06/2019 16:38

Im 34 weeks pregnant 5 years after my c section and have had no trouble at all. My scar hasn't been irritated or anything.

Uterine rupture is less likely than other birth complication eg baby born with cord around its neck.

I will have just over 3 years between children and the consultant said my labour would be higher risk but my pregnancy is low risk. I was actively encouraged to go for a vbac but that is entirely your choice to make.

DearTeddyRobinson · 01/06/2019 20:45

I've had 2 sections, my best friend has had 3, and Victoria Beckham has supposedly had 4! As PP said, rupture is very rare. If you have a second CS it may take a bit longer than the first as there is more scar tissue but the surgeon will know what to do.
Try to stay calm, I know how you feel, pregnancy hormones play absolute havoc with my anxiety ThanksCake

I had a CS in October 2018 and my second baby is due October 2019!! Doctors don't seem too concerned but did discuss possible complications. I had a consultant apt but have been put back to midwife care only atm as everything was okay. Only this is thats I get really achey (hips, back etc), especially at night time in bed but that's just due to having two babies so close together, my body is just very tired lol

Doctors did say I can have a VB or a CS this time, so we'll see! Just have to be monitored a bit more closely

Good luck and congrats! xx

I had an EMCS with my first, consultant said to wait a min of 6 months before trying to get oh again - as soon as the 6 months was up, I got pgp again pretty much straight away & had an ELCS that rime. No probs due to the 2 sections 15 months apart at all.

Karigan195 · 01/06/2019 21:13

Very similar to you I had a c section ten years ago and am now pregnant again. Ask your midwife for an appointment with the vbac clinic (vaginal birth after c section). The ladies there were amazing for me and took me through everything. They assured me that it was low risk for me. They’ll look at your previous surgery and review the last birth and asses your needs etc individually. Chances are you’ll be low risk too but they will talk you through it

AllFourOfThem · 01/06/2019 21:22

I’ve had four c sections in under four years. My consultant wasn’t at all worried about uterine rupture.
