What about Gaviscon?

Watchingthetelly · 01/06/2019 08:44

Rennie is fine to take when pregnant

DeadDoorpost · 01/06/2019 08:44

My Dr prescribed me Ratinidine, is that similar to tums?

Falafel19 · 01/06/2019 08:46

Gaviscon and Rennies.

I've found the gaviscon double action to be very helpful - it says safe for pregnancy on the packet. Lots of things don't work for me so this is a lifesaver!

Forgot to say I use the tablets rather than the liquid

coral13 · 01/06/2019 10:36

I'm vegan (so don't have dairy either) and I've been using Rennie tablets. Sometimes mine has been horrendous and actually bringing up acid and the tablets have always quickly done the trick.

Thank you

@sav93 my doctor prescribed me with ratidine! You can buy them from shops think I only paid £1.50 but if you can get them from the doctor even better as they're higher strength

I totally feel your pain, mine's like acid reflux in my throat.

My midwife got the doctor to describe Peptac (cheap version of Gaviscon) and that seems to work and soothe it.

Hope it feels better soon :)

Omeprazole

sav93 · 03/06/2019 02:12

Thanks so much

You can take both ranitidine and ozemparole together.

I suffered with heartburn before I was pregnant, so pregnancy just made it worse!

My top tips (in no particular order):

Stay clear of high fat and acidic foods (as far as possible). Dairy is a trigger for some people (doubly so as it's often high in fat), but I'm guessing you're already avoiding that as you're intolerant! Spicy food or food cooked with onions/garlic can be a trigger, too.
Although the main cause of your heartburn is pregnancy, if you can reduce stomach acid by changing your diet you might get some relief.

Tilt your bed so that one end is slightly higher (using a plank of wood, for e.g.) and/or use extra pillows to aid a more upright sleeping position (gravity will naturally keep stomach contents down).

Gaviscon is wonderful stuff, but if that fails and you're still struggling, ask your GP for Omeprazole tablets.
