36 weeks today, the countdown is on!

I have posted before about a previous broken back, surgeon confirmed it shouldn’t cause an issue giving birth vaginally.

Placenta was still low at 34 weeks so I have another scan next week at 36+5.

Had a meeting with the anaesthetist who said it would be tricky to site an epidural/spinal due to my scar tissue however not impossible. If I had a planned section due to placenta they’d take the time to fiddle around with it.

If I try for vaginal delivery they would recommend epidural sooner rather than later which I’m not comfortable with as I don’t want it unless I need it. If for any reason I needed an emergency section it would be under general.

If my placenta has moved I am wondering whether I’m better off just asking for an ELCS? I’ve had so many bloody consultant appts about various things and them explaining what could happen in certain situations I’m too aware of what can go wrong now!

If there is an increased risk of things going wrong and difficulty placing an epidural I would go for the ELCS but wait until the next scan before you make any decisions. If I'm not mistaken, ELCS makes for an easier recovery than EMCS, especially under general.

My worry is going through labour and needing an EMCS anyway and not being awake when baby is born.

They’ve booked me in to see the consultant after the scan so I’ll discuss it then.

I don’t want an epidural at the start of labour for the sake of it as I don’t fancy a long labour on a bed if I can help it. Saying that I haven’t given birth before so may be begging for one if I can’t handle the pain lol.
