Have had a growth scan at 34 weeks and baby is already 7 pounds. I don't have GD. Is there anyway I can safely manage how much more weight he puts on towards the end? Eg by what I'm eating perhaps? I obviously don't want to cause him any harm and want him to be healthy. Just very scared of having a 10 pounder!

I don't think there is anything you can really do, but the weights are always a estimate so it could be wrong I guess.

I've had 2 DD first was born 37 weeks 5lb 9 2nd 6lb 2 had extra scans with dd2 because of dd1 size and they were slightly off estimating she would weigh just over 7 lbs

I had extra scans throughout pregnancy due to my BMI and I had a scan at 35+5 and they said your baby is going to be at least 9pound.

Less than 48 hours later I gave birth to a 6,9 baby!!

I had a scan at 36 weeks saying baby was 7lb 3oz already. Lots of anxiety, discussion re induction in due date in case getting v big all drama. Went into labour 2 days later and gave birth to a 6lb 12oz healthy baby. So a good half a pound out. I do believe (to an extent!) your body will know when it’s ready and go into labour before baby gets to big. DD has always been 99th centile and I’m not huge so I’m sure biology kicked in and got her out early!

Thing is that you don't know how big your pelvis is or how stretchy your vagina is. Size of baby and size of exit need to be compatible but a big baby alone is not necessarily bad.

I say this having given birth to a baby over 9lbs a few weeks ago. It wasn't too bad at all.

Snap! 34 weeks and baby’s at 7.1lbs. I had a GD test yesterday and they told me no call today means no diabetes. (The abdominal circumference was measuring very large though and I still don’t know what that means.) I carefully asked the midwife, without using these exact words, whether it was possible to put the baby on a diet. She said eating less would only slow or stop the baby’s growth, not undo it. So I’m going to be careful not to overeat, but I’ve been reassured by people’s big baby stories. The midwife told me she gave birth to an 11lbs baby naturally, then had to have forceps for her next 7lbs baby. Seems you can’t predict experience just by size.

A friend of mine's baby was estimated at 11lbs and she came out a perfectly reasonable 7lb 14. From what a lot of people have told me, these scans can be very inaccurate.

I'm almost 31 weeks and my baby is measuring (according to scans) at just over 4lbs. They've put the fear of god into me and got to have GD tests and more growth scans.

If you haven't tried it already I've found hypnobirthing to be a great tool. They teach you that (by and large) your baby is the perfect size for your body and I think that can help alleviate the anxieties that health professionals put in our minds (albeit they're trying to be helpful haha)
