Hi All,

I have my booking in appointment next week where I'll be 8+4... I'm aware we get free time off work for midwife appointments but I haven't told work yet and I'm nervous to tell so early!

Has anyone else been in this situation? What did you do?

Thanks in advance!

@Nedsxx I don't have any advice as I'm in the same situation! But I'm keen to see what other people say!

I have 2 appointments next week because I'm diabetic and managed to get my booking appt with the midwife on a Saturday. For now I'm just using my diabetes as an excuse as I'm allowed time off for those appointments anyway.

Perhaps you could tell them that it's a dental appointment or something like that? They can't say no and it wouldn't raise any suspicion at this early stage, just an idea x

You could always just tell your manager and make it clear it is not to be general knowledge just yet

Inthesky42 · 29/05/2019 12:06

I said I had a Dr appointment then said Dr was running late (cos it's a really long appointment). I seem to have got away with it... I made up the time as I'm not telling work till 12 weeks.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 29/05/2019 12:10

I claimed root canal work at the dentist.

mistermagpie · 29/05/2019 12:58

I lied and just said I had a doctors appointment. I made up the time later and wasn't bothered about getting it back. I managed to get my 12 week scan at lunchtime so just took a longer lunch, but I don't like to tell anyone until as late as I can get away with it!

Thanks all!

I'm having quite a few Drs appointments atm for something not related, so I'm worried they're going to think I'm taking the piss! Ahhhh it's so hard!!

I told my manager around 6 weeks bit stressed I didn't want anyone else to know. I was finding it tough on my mental health so needed the support and understanding from them. I was terrified of jinxing it but if the worst happened I would have preferred them to know in advance to make it easier.

MrFlibblesEyes · 29/05/2019 18:25

I told my manager at 8 weeks as I started bleeding at work and needed to leave to go to hospital (baby was fine thank god). She kept it a secret for me as she knew I didnt want the news shared and colleagues were surprised when I told them at around 16 weeks so the news obviously hadn't spread!

Newmumma83 · 29/05/2019 18:27

13 weeks, bar one work friend because I was really suffering with all day sickness and need some to cover for me x x

aimingfor2019 · 29/05/2019 18:27

I'm currently 15+2 and haven't told work yet.
Intend to tell them by the end of the week, but if not will do it next week.

Fedoratheexploreer · 29/05/2019 18:33

I just said I had a doctors appointment, but if you do tell your manager they should keep it a secret

Spudina · 29/05/2019 18:37

I give chemotherapy (which you can't do when you are pregnant.) so I had to reveal all quite early in both pregnancies. I also think, that if I had miscarried, I wouldn't have kept that a secret, therefore there was no reason not to tell. Agree with others, you should be able to tell your manager with a guarantee of privacy.

SuziGeo · 29/05/2019 18:43

I told my manager at 8 weeks. Mostly because I was feeling so sick and every time she saw me she asked if I was ok because I looked pale and tired. I'm glad I did because she has been able to rearrange my work schedule and has lightened my load a bit. Waiting until 12 week scan to share with all my colleagues, but think they might have guessed already.

meow1989 · 29/05/2019 18:47

I told work (my immediate team) at 6 weeks as i had had an early reassurance scan (I know this didnt guarantee all would def be fine but thankfully it was). Wider team I told after my 12 week scan.

Saying that my close colleague knew from a few days after the test and some people had already heard me vomiting in the toilets although I'm not sure they realised who it was.

Tell when you feel comfortable, you've no obligation yet.
