Smelly / sweaty

Nearly 36 wks pregnant & noticed the last week I am getting more sweaty and smelly under my arms. Lucky me.

I have hyperhidrosis and when I’m anxious it’s worse but I don’t usually smell.

I’m using Mitchum & I’ve tried others.

Anyone else found this?

Stress sweat does smell worse than normal (heat/exercise) sweat as it's different glands that cause it - apocrine glands rather than eccrine glands and it contains fat/protein that the bacteria on your skin like to munch (which is where the smell comes from).

Maybe I’m more anxious/stressed than I think at the moment then. X

Have you tried Odaban? Shit misleading name, but I also have hyperhydrosis and use this once a week now. It's pregnancy safe as it doesn't enter your bloodstream, it's remains on the skin (I researched on their website). You spray it into a cotton wool pad and wipe on your underarms at night then wash off in the morning. It's the only thing I've found that works.

Driclor is good. Stops sweating. Worked for me. From the pharmacy, I think.

@redwoodmazza I was on Driclor when I was about 13 but couldn't tolerate it! It stung me so much! Strange how things affect people differently!

Sure maximum protection is great. A little more expensive than normal deodorant

@Andersonx3 I’ll try it thank you.

I’ve tried Driclor in the past @redwoodmazza and it stung so much I had to give up

@FindaPenny thank you. x

Driclor is very effective, but you need to make sure your armpits are absolutely dry when you apply it, only apply a small amount, and let it dry thoroughly afterwards - otherwise it does sting and itch like crazy.

I was prescribed Driclor as a teenager too and didn't get on with it as others have said. I use Trust anti-odorant from Boots and Bionsen - neither of those are anti-perspirants but they do help to keep the smell at bay.

Started doing a lot of sport in my early 20s and found that actually helped to reduce the hyperhidrosis (but that's obviously not an option if you're 36 weeks!).

If you use shower gel then switching to bar soap can make a big difference, especially if you use a mildly medicated one. Shield is particularly good if you can get hold of it.
